hard to think of all the wedding food I’ve had but one terrible entree that stands out was dry chicken that was absolutely swimming in some sort of white cream sauce.  Served buffet style so it was cold.  One bite and I was done.

BEST:  Watermelon gazpacho & vegetarian Thai food (any kind of buffet with options is great!)

WORST:  a plate full of beef AND cheesy chicken with no vegetarian option

BEST:  cardamom cake with chai frosting

WORST:  banana cake with buttercream frosting

I just went to a wedding where the bride had a cake potluck in addition to a professionally done wedding cake.  I thought it was a really cool idea!

I have NO recollection of the food I’ve eaten at weddings. The only thing I remember was at one wedding, they had a dessert table with different types of cakes (being cut & served) rather than just one wedding cake. They had this delicious local chocolate cake that I thought was a nice touch.

That’s probably why I’m not stressing about food at my wedding… I find it pretty forgettable in most instances. I just say that to help you not stress. As long as it’s hot & there’s enough of it, I think most people are relatively happy.

Worst: Beef that gave me a stomachache, a buffet where half the food was gone by the time I got there. Weird sweet rolls served at the table (this mattered bc I’m pregnant and at the time I could only eat starches)

Best: Buffet of desserts. Braised short ribs.

WORST: A steak that was raw in the middle (I like rare but that was raw).

BEST: hand made brandy snaps basket, sticky date and pistachio pudding, toffee sauce and home made vanilla bean ice cream…..mmmmmmm OR

White choc parfait topped with strawberry sorbet..covered with fresh warm meringue

Apps: I don’t remember there being apps at any wedding really, maybe some kind of cheese and fruit spread.  We had a roast beef/blue cheese crostini that was really good.

Main: Best-Mushroom Artichoke Lasagna with a bechamel sauce or taco man, taqueria style tacos.  Worst: This beef that was just plain, no sauce or anything.

Dessert: Best-Red velvet cake or pistachio cake with chocolate ganache. Worst-root beer float cupcake or grocery store (I think maybe costco) white cake with white frosting.

The worst I’ve had is really when there are absolutely ZERO vegetarian options. I went to a wedding recently and ended up with salad greens in a vinaigrette and chopped tomatoes and onions. No protein and nothing of substance. We went out for veggie burgers after.

Best: roast beef, mashed potatoes served family style at the table – we added our own ‘fixings’ so I didn’t have gravy, which I hate and can’t eat anyway because of the flour

Worst: cold buffet with big line, and sub-par food (undercooked potatoes and tough meat)

app worst – stone cold soup that had congealed fat on the top

app best – beef carpaccio

main worst – party pies (seriously that was all we got to eat and they weren’t even homemade)

main best – mushroom risotto with truffle oil

dessert worst – strawberry tart that just came out with old strawberries and cream from a can

desert best – chocolate cherry brownie (mmmm)

Best appetizers: mini beef wellingtons, tiny quiches, fruit kebabs

Best entree: all-you-can-eat pasta bar with a variety of different pastas, meats, and sauces

Best dessert: our own, LOL — choice between chocolate cake, cheesecake, and key lime pie.

Worst appetizers: the only bad appetizers are none at all while you’re waiting

Worst entree: bloody steak; a biryani that was cold and the rice wasn’t well-cooked

Worst dessert: an exceedingly stale lemon cake with fondant on it

The best food was at a wedding at one of the most expensive places in New Jersey: The Manor.  It was food galore so it’s hard to sit here and name everything.

The worst food was catered by a restaurant/pizza joint.  They usually have good food, but it was cold, unappetizing, etc.  They also only gave us one plate of food and took it all away after everyone went around.  So, you were lucky if you took enough the first time around.
