We had been dating 11 months. Honestly, I never thought I would get engaged with someone so fast, but we had the unique opportunity of being in between jobs at the same time, and having 3 months of that where we spend almost 24/7 with each other. That brought us much closer and we probably spent the number of hours together that most couples do in several years. If we didn’t want have that opportunity, I probably would have wanted to wait another year

@Mrs. Penguin: 7 years and 4 months!! We waited until I finished my undergraduate and masters degrees, then bought a house, and then a year after buying the house he *finally* proposed! I really only felt like I was waiting during the year we actually got to live together, so timing was perfect for us!

Fiance proposed after 5 years, 5 months and 5 days (not on purpose) of being together. We started dating when we were only 18/19, so anytime before the last year or so would have been too soon for both of us. I think our proposal happened at just about the right time – we had been living together for a little over 2 years and had really gotten the chance to know each other outside the context of college. We had the chance to really become “adults” together. I think it still would have been fine anytime in the previous year, but I wanted him to be ready and that’s how long it took!

Almost four years and we are both in our thirties. I do think it would have happened sooner but he was put off by his first marriage which wasn’t very good and because I have been a student for the past four years so financially it has been a struggle.

We dated for 5.5 yrs before getting engaged. It was the perfect time because we had been living together for almost 2yrs and had found that living together was pretty easy and comfortable for us, and we love each other so much 🙂
We had been dating since I was 20 and we weren’t established in our careers or anything yet. At the time we got engaged we both had our careers going and were financially stable enough to comfortably pay for our house and wedding.

We were together for 4 years before we got engaged. But we knew that we wanted to get married pretty much right after we started dating. So it was kind of bad timing for us. We both didn’t really want to be in a long relationship but he was still in school (I was too, but I eventually “dropped out” because my school kept screwing everything up). Well, he is still in school (only has a couple more classes left).

We dated for 7 months before we got engaged. We knew we wanted to get married the following summer because I’m a teacher and we didn’t want to wait until the following summer.

We dated for about 6 years, lived together for 4 years.
We took our time – we both came from families that have had broken marriages. We wanted to make sure that every little thing life through at us we could work through, be it with support or compromise.
