I know this is relative to diapers, nursing, childcare, healthcare, and eventually schooling… but, I’d be curious from your experience what your costs are for your kids and at what stages of their life (figuring it’s much less expensive in the early years than the later years).
Any expenses you weren’t prepared for or things that surprised you??
What advise would you give to a new parent in terms of finances?

I wasn’t prepared to buy a new pair of jeans for my 7 year old every 1-2 months because he wore holes in (just) the right knee. For me, it was more expensive to have a newborn. Diapers, full time infant childcare, new clothes every few months. Now, he is finishing up 1st grade and I only pay after school care and daycare during the summer. I buy clothes maybe once a year (he hasn’t moved up in sizes for a while).

If you bottle feed formula is super expensive. Clothes are crazy expensive & they grow out of them quickly. Dd is 4 her preschool is very expensive, always has new clothes & shoes very expensivr. And she also does activities (ballet & tap). My advice is budget & coupon! I use to get diapers super cheap using coupons.

I just read an article that states that US average from pregnancy to 18 is $240K.
