OPEN BAR: CONSUMPTION VS FLAT RATE???
Ok ladies…….for the bar at Archeo, I am leaning toward paying by consumption, but after reading SanzWalla’s post, is the flat rate better?
What do you think? I have a sneaky feeling that although there WILL be some heavy drinkers at the reception, most people will have a few (3 to 4) and then stop at that. I don’t want to spend more than necessary on the bar bill. With well over 100 people attending the event, the thought of dropping over $5500 on alcohol (if I pay a flat rate) seems insane! Is that too much to spend on alcohol? Is that a normal rate?

@Maria444: We likely had different food options than what is on their current event menu. We did filet mignon and stuffed cornish hen as our main options with a mushroom risotto for the veg option. I think my main issue was due to large scale cooking/service versus cooking a perfect steak or piece of meat for one or two people. Also, one of our dessert options – blueberry cheesecake – was VERY different on the wedding day. It looked more like something you’d get out of a PC box and nothing like the gourmet dessert served at our tasting.
I paid extra for a day of coordinator and although she did set-up, it was mostly a waste of money. I walked into the venue just before the reception started and had to tell them to re-do most of the stuff that I was already very detailed about.
For those sitting on the fence about bar packages.. I too was very worried but I think it’s worth it to go on consumption. It’s a small venue and very different than a banquet hall, which made me think that I wouldn’t have very many guests ordering drinks and leaving them untouched at random tables – and I was right! 🙂

What about you? Did you decide to go with an open bar by consumption or the flat rate bar? If you went by consumption, what did you end up spending (for how many guests)? Thanks! We’re struggling with this decision for our wedding at Archeo.

My maid of honour just put a deposit on the Fermenting Cellar for Nov 2016. Gorgeous but very expensive. Her overall quote from them for 150 people was $36,000. That includes all rentals, food, drink and two security guards (1 per 100 guests, 150 guests means two security guards). The chandliers are an extra cost also. I believe they provide a coordinator, but thier job is to coordinator the food and beverage only.

That is the quote I received as well, about $40,000 for 200 people and I would need a coordinator on top of that for DOC.
The fermenting cellar was my dream but we got an INCREDIBLE deal at another venue and we went with that one, even though it wasn’t our initial vision. Now we have plenty for decor to make the space unique and to our taste 😀
