I posted a thread a few days ago about my daughter’s Sweet 16 gift. It is a dragon ring created by David Klass. The ring arrived yesterday!! You guys … I am in love with it. I think it turned out so great. And even better, my daughter loves it, too!
Unfortunately, we sized for the ring off of a band she wears on the same finger. It turns out this band is 3-4 times wider than the dragon ring, so the ring was slightly too big when we received it. I sent it back this morning for sizing beads, and we should still have it back to us in time for her birthday. It was a slight disappointment and a rookie mistake on my part. But luckily it’s an easy fix.
My daughter was able to wear it all day yesterday around the house. And I grabbed some pictures yesterday afternoon, before we packed it up for shipping. So … here it is!

motogal : Thanks so much! I am super excited with how it turned out. It is so pretty, and the setting has graceful curves to it. I hope she will treasure it for a long time to come, and that she will have fun wearing it.
cushionlove : Thanks! My daughter wanted the black metal. I wasn’t as sure about it, since I don’t have any experience with it. In the end, I think it was the right choice. I love how her pink stone looks next to the black gold.
Spiritway11 : Thanks so much! *cyberhugs* She is a super sweet girl and a great kid. She has always been the joy of my life, so I was really excited to work on a ring for her. And even more excited that she loved the finished product. I can’t wait for the sizing beads to be in so that she can wear it without worrying about it falling off.
softdrink77 : Thanks! I am super happy with how it turned out.

It’s beautiful — such a thoughtful gift and I’m sure your daughter will treasure it forever! The slightly bigger size might work out for the best as she grows up.
Are the cherry blossoms enamel? I love the extra pop of color they give (and the sentiment behind them, of course!)

Charliejeorge : Thanks so much! I feel like I’m the lucky one. I am so blessed to be her Mom. She amazes me every day.
DappledDuchess : Thank you, thank you! I wasn’t sure how I would feel about the black coloring. But I LOVE it. It really is beautiful, and I like how the light hits the curves of the ring to highlight subtle differences in color. (Hopefully that makes sense.) I teasingly told my daughte I was tempted to commission a similar ring for myself, and she was like, “Yes! Mother-Daughter rings!!” LOL
Spiritway11 : Oh my gosh! Thanks for your kind words. *hugs* That’s such a sweet thing to say. I can’t wait for her to get to wear it whenever she wants. Hopefully it will be back with us soon.
encorebride41 : Oh, man!! I’m totally blushing here. Thanks so much for your kind words. I feel like my ideas are a little bit too crazy or “out there” most of the time. But I’m finally at the point in my life where I can say to myself, “That’s okay. You like what you like, and there’s nothing wrong with that.” I love having fun with the whole creative process, too. Thanks for waiting out the finished pictures for this one. I’m so, so happy with how it turned out. It’s even better than I had hoped it would be, and I think her stone looks so pretty in this setting.
TheGridMonster : Thanks so much! I hope she will treasure it for the rest of her life. And, maybe, pass it along to her own children — if she decides to have any. If not, then maybe she will pass it along to someone who is special to her. I’m super happy with how it turned out. And it was fun to work on a project with my daughter in mind.
The cherry blossoms are enameled. We originally had them the same color as the rest of the setting, but she wanted them to stand out more. So I asked if we could add enameling. I’m kind of addicted to it, anyhow, after DK used it on my anniversary ring. I wasn’t sure about it, but I agree the pop of color is super pretty against that black.

longtimemrs : haha! That would be a great idea I think! Matching rings would be awesome! Would they be identical with colors? Or would you want to have the same ring but with a different stone?
DappledDuchess : If I did it, it would be different. Still in black metal, but probably with a blue zircon for my stone. Or maybe a Montana Sapphire in a teal or blue — something on the bright or icy blue side. And I would just have a plain band, without the cherry blossoms. Not that I have thought about this at all. *ahem* LOLz
