- Wedding: October 2012
So I went dress shopping for the first time last week, and lets just say it was enlightening.
Anyway, I was super excited and invited two relatively new friends (because I live in New Zealand and all my family and bridal party live in the States) I briefed them on what I was looking for over a coffee and then we were off to the salon. As this was my first appointment I was hoping for a consultant who could guide me a little bit in what would look best on me, I did bring my wedding inspiration folder (a folder I have created with all the magazine cut outs of items that I like) for my consultant to look at to get an idea of what I would like. Sadly she wasn’t much help, she didn’t offer much guidance on styles that would work for me nor did she listen to my concerns about certain styles. So that was a bummer.
I am a US size 14/16 – 14 when I wear spanks and 16 when I don’t. I was slightly surprised that the salon didn’t carry a single dress larger than a size 14 NZ (12 US) I am really glad that I brought two friends as I did manage to get into all the size NZ 8 and 10 dresses but if it wasn’t for those two brave souls I would still be stuck in those gowns!
Although not a very successful appointment, I atleast got to see what bridal gowns feel like on. I am returning to the States in November and have an appointment booked in a large NYC bridal store so I have my fingers crossed that they will have some bigger gowns to try on, so I can get a better idea of what styles I like.
I have such high hopes for my gown, and after reading some other posts on this site I am a bit nervous that all my hopes may be dashed. BUT I am still going into this thinking positively, I will find the dress of my dreams and I won’t have to sell my soul in order to pay for it. Wish me luck.
