I’m so pleased that you found your dress after being so worried about it. I know exactly how you feel and I’ve ordered online because I wasn’t confident enough to go into a shop and try them on. You look beautiful and the second choice also looks amazing on you. Congrats on finding the one. x

I’m a US size 14/16 (so that’s pretty close to your size, I think) and while I had a bad experience in one salon (the hairy eyeballs from the size 2 brides, the “oh gods, I get to try to make this fatty look good?” bit, “two hideous dresses on the rack way in the back” bit, the “oh, all brides your size want the strapless, blinged out, ruched, ball gown monstrosities, so that’s all I’ll show you” bit, etc.), I had an absolute blast at the salon I ended up buying my dress from. My consultant was a dream, the other brides and consultants were all supportive (everyone was telling each other how great they looked in their dresses – not at all what I was expecting) and there were plenty (almost too many) dresses to try on.  They can clip dresses on you if they end up not being the right size (either too big; yes, it’s possible, or too small).

Bring a supportive friend or family member with you, along with pictures of dresses that are similar to the style you’re looking for. Think outside the box – the dress I ended up buying wasn’t at all what I originally had in mind, and the style of dress I had in mind when I first started shopping ended up being absolutely wrong on me.  At the same time, though, don’t be afraid to tell the consultant if something they bring you isn’t right for you.  And if you get the hairy eyeball from a size 2, just keep in mind that you’re the better person, because you’re not judging them based on their size.

@Pokemon:  please feel free not to answer but what street size are you? I feel I have a similar build as you and am wondering if I can expect to look that amazing in those gowns (I hop I hop I hop) cuz you’re gorgeous!

@JL4SM:  oh my gosh your dress is stunning. I’m sure you feel a bit silly now for being so stressed about it all when you’ve found a dress that looks like it was made for you! Congratulations! Everything gets better from here πŸ™‚
