I think this happens to a lot of people. You think you want one thing, but once you see it on, it look awful. I was the same way. I wanted fit & flare but my body shape looked horrible in it, I got something my sister made me try on that i hated!!! I fell in love with it once i saw it on. But if it looks great on you &  you feel good in it. Just go for it…you will be happy you did.

Can you post a picture of the dress you’re in love with? It might help give us a better idea!!

I did too.  I thought the “typical” wedding dress was just not me.  I wanted sleeves, plain sheath dress, definitely not strapless or sweetheard neckline, no fancy beading or train or anything like that.  I tried on dresses like that, but every single one looked terrible.  Then I tried on “typical” wedding dresses and there were so many I loved.  Some of those designers really know what they’re doing, because the shapes, the skirts, the fit….they all conspired to make me fall in love with a strapless beaded lace overlay dress with scalloped lace train.  :):)

Seriously, try on dresses that are way out of your comfort zone.  I found that the more I tried on, the closer and closer I got to the One.  It got to the point where I could look at a neckline and know that it would be bad on me.

Not for my wedding, but at past events I’ve had this problem. I envisioned one thing, but found the complete opposite is what really looked good on me. I don’t think you’ll regret choosing the dress that looks most flattering on you and that you feel best in, even if it doesn’t fit your initial “vision”. You will feel better on your wedding day if it’s something that makes you feel beautiful, regardless of the style.

If you like the dress, don’t worry if it doesn’t match your “vision.” As you go through the joys of wedding planning, you’ll find your vision changing many times. Sometimes it’ll be just because you’ve been exposed to new ideas, sometimes it’s budget, sometimes it’s because things just work better that way.  Give yourself permission to break away from your vision if it feels right!

@Crazyhair:  though it is a dress we’ve all “seen before” , you look smashingly beautiful. I, too, and 5’0 , but would NOT be able to work a lace dress like that. Is this an Allure?

LOVE the first dress. It is seriously so flattering on you. Honestly, you have a great body, and I think you should show it off & not hide it under a flowy dress, but that’s just my personal opinion!

Don’t worry it happens all the time. You go into the dress process thinking you want one thing and then when you try it on, it’s not what you pictured and wind up with something totally different. I see it all the time and there is certainly nothing wrong with that. It happens, the gowns look different on then they do on the hanger or even a another bride.

You want to make sure you are comfortable and confident in your gown! I love the style you chose. I think it is a beautiful lace pattern and a great style on your shape. It is also a very timeless look as well!

I love the first dress but have you looked on Etsy or BHLDN – they have some more vintage/bohemian styles

Love the first one!! You said you could imagine feeling sexy in it and that’s exactly how you should feel on your wedding day.  I actually tried the second one on as well, and loved it (it was in my top two choices), but after getting home and imagining how I wanted to feel on the day of I knew I had to go for my other choice (maggie sottero – zabrina).  When I put it on I loved how it hugged my body and I felt so elegant.  That’s how you look in the first choice, SO beautiful!  The second is very fun and lighthearted, which I why I loved it as well, and it would undoubtedly be a wonderful choice, but you also said that your fiance didn’t care for it.  Of course I’m sure he’d love anything you end up choosing, but try to imagine his face when you come down the aisle in that stunning first choice!
