If you are going by what the Mayan Calendar says, the world should have ended 7 months ago. They didn’t account for leap year.

So, I’m not that worried about it.

But, what exciting news for you!!

Nah, I think it is just plain silly. An end of the world party would be a great idea, though!

I keep joking with Fiance that I expect to be married before the world ends.  However, I do not believe it.  Like PP said Mayans didn’t have leap year so technically world should have already ended.  Not to mention I’ve survived a lot so IF the end of the world is really coming I’m not scared, and there’s nothing I can do about it so why worry.  Heck for all I know I could be in a car accident tomorrow (knock on wood).

I don’t believe the Mayan calendar thing. But I do think something bad may happen in the next few years. Besides the horrible crap on the East Coast with Sandy and now the “dusting of snow” (Idiot meterologists!!!!!) that turned into 4-8 inches in some places, think of all the other strange weather that’s been occurring all over the world. Earthquakes in places that never used to have them. Tsunamis. On & on. Not to mention the awful state of the economy and the horrible debt this country has. I have a bad feeling about the future of this planet, especially the USA, in general.

It doesn’t really effect how I feel waiting-wise; my SO doesn’t share my negative vibes and he certainly won’t move up the proposal or wedding because of it! We’ll just have to play it by ear I guess. I hope I am wrong and things do start to look up.

P.S. Do you watch “Doomsday Preppers” on Nat Geo? It’s a great show, I think you would really enjoy it  🙂

@arsing89:  Untrue. the Long Count calendar counts days, not years. 1.8 million (or so) days. No years, so no leap years involved. Just a very, very long sequence of days, not tied to the moon, the sun, not to anything. Just like a computer would count them. The Mayan calander does not give the date 12/21/12 this is a date that had to be carefully calculated to tie in with our calendar so im afraid to say the leap year debunk is not a debunk at all. Anyways its no he world will end, its simply the end of that count, it simply starts again just like our caledar sarts again on the 1st of January.

Totally don’t believe the Mayan Calendar stuff.

I am worried about climate change and crazy weather and our aging infrastructure and and and… but it’s more like a gradual descent into a terrifyingly increasingly unpleasant world for all but the very richest than Bam! Smack! End of time.

Well, I dont even fear death (I fear other stuff though, I’m odd) so I wouldn’t mind the Bam! Smack! too much, …unlucky me, I completely believe we’re going through climate change, our leaders are in denial about it because of the world economic situation, and it’s going to get worse before it gets better (if it does get better). And we’re not at all prepared for it.

Sorry to be so gloomy. Thanks for letting me vent my anxiety. I hope I’m way way way off.

My Fiance said he was going to wait to propose on 12/21/12, so he could be like “Well since the world is ending we might as well get married” HAHA. 😐 I’m glad he did it a few months earlier lol.

I hope the proposal is coming soon!

We kind of wanted to have the wedding then, but that would have left us with something like three months to save up and plan, so we are settling for the Ides of March.
