@PrincessBride27: outrageous! It’s recommending I give a ludicrous amount. Maybe the salary ranges are too wide and it’s assuming I’m at the top of that range? It also doesn’t take personal expenses into account. I could never afford a wedding gift for that much! Sheesh!

Holy cow that is high for my area. I calculated some of the weddings coming up (where we already have planned amounts) and the calculator gave way higher numbers. I thought maybe we are just being stingy so I entered in info from our guests and compared it to the gift that they gave us and they were no where close to the number either.
I think the problem with this calculater is that it factors in the amount of money that DH and I make. I have never based it on that (unless I’m dirt poor like college and absolutely couldn’t afford more). I don’t think my income should factor in at all.

It doesn’t take into account people’s location tradition in gift giving. People in the Northeast US generally give more money than the rest of the country. I’m assuming the developer is from there!
