So, I have less than 2 weeks to go. I have always loved my dress and never had a moments regret. I posted a few months ago about “back fat” – I know I’m not fat but I am over 40 and suffer the usual flabby underarm bit etc. I also had some issues with gaping at the front due to some last minute weight loss. This has been resolved by wearing a bra underneath – so now, I’m back to the back issues! I honestly think I was just shocked to see that I have a broad back, rather than it being a back fat issue. I love the look with my fur bolero and I’m now wondering whether I should purchase a chiffon bolero as well (can’t wear fur the whole day) to stop me fretting about the back view. Only one person has seen the dress and she insists I have a normal back! So be honest, is my back view really scary? Should I purchase a chiffon bolero? My friend suggested that it might help if I wore a chiffon bolero for the ceremony which is the only time people would see my back.
Ignore the open bedroom doors and the fact the back of my hair is messy!

I think there are a few things to consider:
1. Will you FEEL more comfortable in the bolero? If you are self-conscious about this, its the last place your energies should be focused on throughout your wedding.
2. Do you feel funny mentioning this to your photographer? A lot of times, its out of sight, out of mind. I have really bad posture. I am being completely honest with her and asking her to either correct it (by telling me to stand up straight) or avoid shots where it looks bad.
I think you look gorgeous!
Also, you could consider a veil…

I think you look stunning and you don’t need the chiffon bolero!

I think it looks great without the bolero!

You look beautiful! Honestly, you don’t need the bolero. I think we all focus on things that bother us when they really aren’t that bad. If you feel more comfortable with it, the chiffon one would look nice.

Definately do not need the Bolero, you look beautiful without it

I don’t care too much for the chiffon bolero. It looks too structured or masculine for such a romantic silhouette. What about scalloped edge lace bolero? There are a lot of good ones on Etsy if you wanted to go that route.
I can see what you’re talking about with the back, but I don’t think it looks too bad. Have you tried loosening the strong on your corset? Or leaving the first two loops on each side undone? I also have read somewhere on here that you can fix this with tape (was of particular interest to me, because mine WILL be fat!) I will see if I can find it, but like I said, it’s really minor and doesn’t look bad as is. I may not have even noticed if you hadn’t said “hey look at my back fat”.

@mel801: ooo I actually think you have really beautiful collar bones so I wouldn’t want to cover them with a bolero… BUT I can understand the whole back issue as well.
Make yourself comfortable! If you’re not wanting to show your bare back, don’t!

You’re over 40??? I think I hate you just a little bit.
I don’t think you really need the bolero, but you don’t want to be feeling self concious on your wedding day, so if it makes you happy, then go for it!

No time to purchase from Etsy – I’m in th UK! I do have some left over lace from where 2 feet of material was chopped from the train, so I could attach some lace appliques to the chiffon? Loosening the corset gives me too much gape at the front, but honestly, I have tried loosening it and my back looks pretty much the same. In normal clothes I’m always happy with the look, I guess the corset just sucks it all in which accentuates the upper back. I should have paid more attention to the rear while I was dress shopping!
Thanks to the rest of you for your kind comments. I think I should maybe just buy the chiffon bolero and see if it makes me feel better. ?
