A few weeks ago I started this thread to get some advice: http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/designing-engagement-ring-help/
Rather than resurrecting it, I’m just starting a new thread with the finished product.
Thanks so much to those who helped. Because of your advice I ended up doing the whole thing in platinum, as well as adding milgrain to the head and making sure the pave was flush and secure. You may notice the veeery small aquamarine under the center stone. The center stone is a white sapphire, my birthstone, so I wanted to put the aquamarine (her birthstone) there so they reflected. I was told that would make the center stone more difficult to clean and considered not doing it. But as the 4th pic shows you can easily see the bottom of the stone from all angles so I think it will be ok. So I definitley considered the advice…. I just didn’t take all of it :). I may very well end up regretting it!
Anyway, I’m REALLY happy with how it turned out. I got to be involved from the CAD images, to the wax, to the rough casting and the whole process was so cool! It will be very hard to buy off the rack again ;).
The stone itself has great character, it really changes tint based on the lighting conditions. It’s a 1.41 ct natural, untreated white sapphire. The hand pics are mine – it’s a size 6 ring and fits pretty well on my middle finger.
