I am 20 weeks pregnant, and Wednesday we go in for our AS to find out if the baby is a boy or girl. We aren’t having a gender reveal party. We plan on just telling everyone. However…
I had posted a reply on someone else’s thread with an idea that we had for the gender reveal to my mom, and I decided to make my own post since it seems some Bees are very interested in hearing the update of how it will go.
Because of various reasons, we didn’t want my Mother-In-Law knowing the gender before Christmas, but we knew if we told my mom, Mother-In-Law would feel bad not knowing. My mom (jokingly but not jokingly) told us that “if you don’t tell me the gender before Christmas I’m never taking care of Napoleon on the weekends again.” And then she proceeded to stick her tongue out at me.
Well, FINE. Two can play at that game, Madame!
My mom HATES balloons. I think something happened when she was younger when one popped near her. She can be in the same room as them, but if anyone is playing with them around her (even kids), she get’s very testy. She hates the noise, the fact they can pop, she won’t blow them up, nothing. She is deathly afraid of them, so Darling Husband, the little shit instigator he is (and I love), said, “Why not make her pop a balloon with the gender inside?”
So: we are going to get a black balloon, fill it with “It’s a Boy” or “It’s a Girl” confetti, and make her pop the sucker on Thanksgiving in order to know. Now, we are giving her a pair of goggles to wear during the popping, just in case someone thinks I am a really shitty daughter, lol. I am only half shitty.
Hopefully all goes according to plan, and if it does I will have a super fun video to post. I am going to try my hardest to make sure no one else pops it for her.
I am open to more suggestions on how to make this more miserable and horrible for her, so if you have additional ideas please throw them out there! I want to make this experience hilariously horrible for my mom 🙂
