- Wedding: March 2010 - Calamigos Ranch
Anyone doing a "dramatic" getaway from your reception? What are you doing? I’ve seen such cute pictures with sparklers, but I’m not sure my venue will allow it. 🙂
When do you do this? Right after cutting the cake, or a little later? I want to stay and enjoy my party, but I don’t want all the guests to have left already if we decide to do something fun on the way out!

To me some of the best pictures seem to be with the sparklers! The most recent wedding I was at, the couple ran out while we all held the sparklers and it was a pretty amazing visual. By that time only the younger friends of the couple were left, but there were still plenty of us. If you want to stay and enjoy your party you most definitely should! If your venue doesn’t allow sparklers (mine doesn’t either ) you could maybe have people throw petals or rice as you walk back down the aisle or out of your ceremony venue. That way no one misses anything!

For my brother’s wedding in April they did a mock get-away so that all the guests were there and made the pictures really full looking!
For our get-away we plan to take off in an airplane. My Fiance is a pilot and we have connections to planes we can borrow for the day. We don’t want to take away from his chances to have a good time at the party so we are going to do a small brunch on Sunday with whoever wants to come by and watch us take-off. I think many will because they are staying at the hotel along the runway. Those staying at other hotels probably won’t get up and come back over. But that’s okay!
Oh yeah, I bought these paper airplanes that I plan to give out for people to toss at us as we run to the plane to get in.
