Hi there, hoping someone may have some insight (previous Grandview brides). I am getting married 7/1/12 a wedding of approx 150 guests. My finance and I signed for the indoor ballroom, but now I am wondering if we should switch to the outdoor tent.
1- We are having a band and if we use the outdoor tent the band would have to use Grandview’s amplification system, one band already said no to that idea.
2- We have 150 guests, not sure if the indoor ballroom will appear slightly empty as it can hold up to 400 people.
So, past brides if you can let me know your thoughts 1- if you used the outdoor tent with a band and how did that go? 2- if you did have your reception in the indoor ballroom with a smaller wedding (around 150 people) and how did that work?

Is this for the Grandview in Poughkeepsie?

I can’t say much about the indoor ballroom, but I attended a wedding last July 16 in the outdoor tent. It was absolutely beautiful, but keep in mind July gets hot. That day was 100 degrees, and it was black tie optional, so I was in a long dress and incredibly hot. I don’t think you should be having second thoughts about switching it. That same night there was a wedding in the indoor ballroom and we had no idea until the end of the night. Seemed like they had a blast in there. Guests will be much more comfortable in an air conditioned room. But you don’t get the view of the water all night, etc. It’s up to you what your priorities wants to be! Either way – it’s a gorgeous location and great area. Good luck!

We looked at the Grandview too!! It’s really pretty. Don’t second-guess yourself. Tents can be nice, but I totally agree with the comment about the heat. You may find yourself with a lot of complaining guests! Or what if it rains, or is windy….
You may also have to shell over more money to decorate the tent – so if budget is an issue, that might be something to think about. You must have picked the ballroom for a reason, so I’m sure you made the right decision for you the first time 🙂
Maybe you can talk to the coordinator there about the pros and cons of each. I’m sure they’ll be able to give you some perspective on it. Good luck! You picked a great venue, so you’ll have a gorgeous wedding either way!! Are you from the area? I was born and raised in Saugerties – about 30 min away.

I’m getting married at the Grandview in May. I am doing in the outside tent but we did it in May because we were afraid of it being too hot. They told us the tent can be heated but not air conditioned. So we moved our date to early May so we didn’t have to worry about it being incredibly hot.
I looked at the indoor room and I think it will be perfect with 150 people. it’s beautiful and your guests will be nice and cool!

Thank you ladies for your help! We spoke with our photographer and are sticking with the indoor ballroom 🙂 We are having a good size band and want them to be able to use their own sound system too.
Thank you again for your help here!
