I don’t understand why it is a big deal personally. When someone else gets engaged the first thing I do (after saying congrats of course) is want to see the ring. For those that don’t live close to their nearest and dearest FB is a great tool for sharing.

I posted photos of mine in the same album as our trip photos (FI proposed of NYE weekend). It wasn’t like I advertised “HERE IS MY RING” but rather it was in there in case anyone wanted to see it. And yes I did have people ask and I directed them to that photo thus saving me a great deal of time.

I want to throw in my 2 cents…  I’m probably totally weird and paranoid, but I love my ring because it is so incredibly unique (at least I think so!).  I have considered posting photos, because I know I enjoy seeing A photo of others’ rings, but I really don’t want my ring to be out there for the whole world to see!  It’s beautiful, it’s special, and it’s mine, I don’t want to share!  I don’t think I’ve even put a picture up here…

Me too. My ring is special to me, and there are people I have on facebook that I don’t speak to or see anymore. Whoever wants to see my ring can see it in person because it’s so special to me and means a lot. There are probably pictures where you can see my ring in a way that it is ‘accidentally’ in the picture (not a close up of it or anything). However, I do look for other peoples rings lol
