Hello Lovely Bee’s,
I’m so happy to share with all of you that my fiance and I have found our venue!
Finding the venue has proved to be quite a challenge. My fiancé and I fell in love with the idea of historic venues, and decided to do some research and after an extensive amount of emails, tours, and phone calls we finally found three that would be perfect for our wedding. However, we quickly discovered that historic venue’s come with historical headaches–in that all three places will be undergoing major RENOVATIONS during the fall of 2015, and will not be available for weddings. *Sigh* Needless to say, I have been hunting for venues for months, in Westchester, NYC and even NJ without results. What are the chances that all 3 places would be undergoing such major renovations at the exact same time??
Another issue is that in the NYC area, venues book (and fill) 2 years out, so I was also running into the problem of not being able to secure my date, or sometimes a Saturday in the Fall season. The other big issue I found was that many venues host more than 1 wedding at a time–with one “popular” place, hosting up to 3! (I don’t care how beautiful or well known the venue is, there’s no way 3 weddings can go on at the same time without cross over.) So my fiancé and I sat down and created a “Wedding Venue Wish List” and kept searching.
Some things on the list included: 1. A manor house/Estate or Mansion-penthouse. 2. That has our date available. 3. A historical landmark, or “old world” feel. 4. Has multiple rooms that are available to us, to use during the reception. (We don’t like the boxed in feeling of being confined to just a ballroom.) 4. A venue that does one wedding at a time. 5. Must be in NYC, Westchester or LI.
Our expectations were met, and exceeded when my fiancé and I discovered the Rowsley Estate in Scarsdale, NY. We did the walk through, fell in love instantly, and decided to go ahead and secure our date! We’ll be officially signing contracts over the weekend! I can’t say enough good things about the caterer, Jean-Jacques! We’re working with Mary, and she’s a dream–the ease, options, and attention to detail provided is well worth the cost and I love how detail oriented she is. We have use of the entire house for the day of our wedding up until 11:30 pm, which includes the upstairs bridal suite, multiple sitting rooms for guests, parlour room, dining room for cocktail hour, ballroom, use of the grounds etc.. I still have complete control over the look and feel, but it’s nice to know that Mary’s there every step of the way to coordinate and execute everything. YES! Also, they even provide a custom wedding cake, which is included in the contract. 🙂
Here are some pictures, I’m so excited! <3
