I actually really like the high-waisted trend! My natural waist is rather high up compared to my hips and I carry my excess weight around my lower abdomen. So the high-waisted pants help cinch in the excess weight and ends right where I’m thinnest. To be fair, I don’t tuck my shirt into my pants/skirts so that it’s like Urkel; I usually pair the pants with a longer (hip-length preferably) top – either fitted or flowy (think Anthropologie). I also always wear high heels with the high-waisted pants/skirts. I can’t pull off the shorts though.

@lilbluebird: +1. This is exactly my issue. after two kids, my bottom abdomen section sticks out a little more so i love this.

Would it KILL designers to embrace the mid-rise? First it was the crack-skimming hip hugger fad, now it’s the granny pants look. Most of the population can’t pull of either. This just solidifies my view that fashion designers hate women.

I live for high waisted pencil skirts for work, so I do like a high waist, but I’m very picky about it on jeans and I won’t wear it on shorts. I have one pair of high-waist jeans, and they’re very retro style- big bell bottoms and all. They do look good with a pretty blouse for work.

I like them, although I don’t own any yet. As long as the skinny jeans and boots trend stays in, I’ll be happy!

I absolutely hate the look. I think it’s really unattractive.
High waisted pencil skirts are different–totally cute IMO.

BARF. The “mom” jeans of the 80s and 90s need to die.

High-waists are a perennial fad and they have kind of a vintage/pin-up vibe to them.

Won’t catch me dead in them, though.

@Aure: Okay, here’s the thing though.. That picture you posted of the Jenner girls has me worked up. Kylie is what.. 14? 15? She looks like she has mom pooch. Oh and don’t even get me started on the camel toe. So no, even if you have a great thin body, you’ll still look like you have mom pooch. One more time because I like to say it.. MOM POOCH.

Dang, so much hate!! I love them because they are so pinup! For a few years they were all I would wear, but ever since a year ago, I’ve put on a couple inches so my shorts and pants don’t fit well, they just look too tight 🙁 I guess I don’t like them because of the “fad” though, I like them because I like the pinup/vintage look…

IDK– it all depends. Would I wear high waisted skin tight jean shorts? Probably not.
I would definitely wear a more relaxed fit, high waisted short like this:

I also have some high waisted black dress pants that I tuck shirts into, add a skinny belt and heels and they make my legs look miles long! I always get compliments when I wear them!

@doobie: Huh, maybe I don’t hate it because I’m mom-pooch blind, haha. I’m just not seeing it. She looks more curvy, but not poochy.

@Aure: Definitely agree to disagree. 🙂 I’m sure there are plenty of things I wear that horrify some people so who am I to judge haha.
MOM POOCH. Sorry, had to.

I love it when they are worn on the right body type!
I’m pretty short and curvy, so they are not especially attractive on me. I see tall & thin girls wearing them all the time though, and they look awesome on them!
