    Four years, huh?  Is he saving, like, $20 a month?  Because that’s totally not gonna cut it. Tell him he needs a new excuse 😉

    Ugh.  Money.  I love how they’ll be all like, “Honey, I’m saving up!”…

    …And then the next day, they spend a few hundred dollars on your non-ring birthday present, or they drop $80 on a night at the bar, or they go and buy themselves a new XBox.  Even though they’re full-time students who only work part time.  Rawr.

    lol oh my.. My SO just started saying this to me Undecided

    I fear I will be waiting for awhile.. He had mentioned how he thought it would be a nice gesture to wait till our anniversary to ask (a year away/not much of a surprise) I was to say the least ‘sad’.  He then said “well maybe I’m just telling you that, it might come sooner” ughh

    A friend of mine’s bf told her he had to save for another 2 years. She said “if u dont propose by April, Im leaving” he said okay! Let them know who’s boss- getting married shouldnt be only up to the man.

    Way to go to your friend!! I didn’t end up waiting too long, but when Fiance first told me he didn’t want to get married or if he did he waited to be at least 35 (he was 28 when we met), I responded “guess we’re over.”  We were dating only four 1 month at the time, but that must have made him think hard because he changed his mind and proposed shortly after.  He’ll be two months shy of turning 31 when we are married. Sometimes being forceful is what gets things moving! 🙂

    @swtTea: Agreed.

    My Darling Husband proposed on the spot when he realized I wouldn’t move in with him before we were engaged. He was ready to commit, but thought we would just live together first and he’d eventually propose… I couldn’t settle for “eventually”; told him I would move in after we’re engaged, not before. Started to move boxes the day after.. 😉

    Considering you are only 20, 4 years isn’t that long to be saving money because two of those years were spent in high school! (I’m assuming he is the same age or around the same age). If you were in your mid to late 20s and he had been saving up for 4 years I would start questioning..

    Whoah… you’re 20? So you’ve both been planning on getting married since you were 16? If it were me, I’d be more concerned with saving that money for education or career-building investments at that age. I wouldn’t hold it against him that he isn’t concentrating all his saving efforts on a ring and a wedding at this point. Have you considered that the real excuse here could be just that he might not be ready for all this?
