Fiance and I want to design our invitations, but we don’t really have a theme or colors…not sure where to start. Ugh! Inspiration – where are you?
Has anyone designed their own invitations? What do you base your idea on?

everyone else’s ideas 🙂 lol

that’s a good idea SugarSweetPink – believe me, I’m looking
but both my Fiance and I are creative people – I feel like we SHOULD be able to come up with something nice on our own. It’s so hard though 🙁

Have you picked out a theme/venue/colors/etc?
I think that helps…or drool over some things on etsy or WB 😉

we have a venue, kinda of a theme, but not really – working on colors. hehe

I started with an invite I really loved but didn’t want to copy. (also wanted to do something original!) Then I made tons of variations on it (orientation, fonts, visual elements) but all in the same color scheme. Then the idea gradually evolved, I added my colors (pink and green) and finally had about 4 final designs that looked nothing like the original. I showed them to people and chose my final one based on everyone’s opinions.
Just look at tons of other people’s designs and experiment. Good luck!

our entire wedding is ultimately based on our stationery pieces. we already had our colors, and when we found our garden-summery invitatoins, everything just fell into place.
start with your formality – informal, casual, formal, traditional, etc.
then your theme – garden, rustic, organic, contemporary, modern, whimsical, etc.
then your colors – you get the idea for that one.
then the emotions you would like to convey wiht your invitations, they shoudl set the tone for your wedding – playful, family, intimate, personal, formal, traditional, etc.
once you ahve those ideas in mind, inspiration will soon follow!
