Oh my! Yes, you should have been explicit in what you asked for, but any professional jeweler should make it clear what they will be doing also.

@s2bmrscook:  I know this is a couple days old now, but you need to make them use the stones from your original ring. I don’t give a shit if they don’t want to. Why should they give a crap anyways. Tell them they ruined it and you want all the original stones because they hold sentimental value and you couldn’t care less about their feelings on it.

mine is soldered with a gap as well. It is VERY possible. They attach the rings at the back, and from the bottom of the basket to the top of the wedding ring. It is 100% possible.

I am so, so, so, so sorry this happened to you 🙁

@s2bmrscook:  yikes! I am shocked that how the work was going to be accomplished wasn’t discussed with you! Especially something so drastic.

Glad they are doing something for you.

@s2bmrscook:  Did they say why they couldn’t use the original stones for the new set that they are custom making? I’m kind of confused why they can’t? Seems like they should be jumping through hoops…

I would also make sure to get your old rings appraised and when the time comes to get your new rings appraised as well. I hate that you’re going through this. 🙁

@s2bmrscook:  I completely understand, my Darling Husband is the exact same way when it comes to asking for things, especially with people who have let you down to begin with! 🙂 I also understand wanting to just be done with them. I would too!

I would just hate for them to give you lesser quality stones and then take your good stones and make money off of ruining your rings in the first place. (that’s me being quite the pessimist about the situation though!)

I would assume most jewelers solder the rings to sit flush. I’ve never seen soldered rings that have a gap but I’m sorry you’re not happy. I’m sure they’ll fix it.

I’m sorry this happened.  I don’t know much about this sort of thing.  I think the big question is will you allow this jeweler to touch your rings again? I’d be scared, but if you decide to go back be VERY clear on what you expect to see back.  That way there are aboslutely no “misunderstandings.” I’m sorry – hope all works out, try to stay positive.

@s2bmrscook:  that jeweler is a moron. my rings have the teensiest, almost invisible-to-the-naked-eye gap, and my jeweler told me under no circumstances should i have them soldered because they would have to compromise the integrity of my engagement ring to get my band to sit flush. straight up told me that.

uuugh i’m so sorry. if it helps, they still look really beautiful together! and it looks like they ARE soldered nicely, but i know this is traumatizing.
