- Wedding: October 2012
For the most part all of our big things are taken care of. Today Groomy, Future Father-In-Law (aka BM), and one groomsmen are going to get tuxes taken care of I do believe. While that’s happening Future Mother-In-Law and Future Sister-In-Law will be driving that groomsmen’s wife, who is one of my bridesmaids, down my way for the bridal shower. But first, I want to celebrate the things we accomplished yesterday.
We have rings and a cake now! HALLELUJAH!
We made another special trip out to the place where his parents got their wedding bands. We each found a band and we both paid for eachother’s bands. I think we both got a pretty good deal. They were having a bit of a sale which knocked the price down some. I was really happy that I could afford his ring myself. I wanted to be able to buy it for him. I still have savings, from when I was working, leftover so that’s for zee future (honeymoon or apartment fund).
Additionally, we purchased our wedding cake from the same place his parent’s got theirs. Makes it more special for us =) and p.s. the cake was $570 cheaper by getting it out of state. o_o….and it tastes way better. We tasted red velvet marble, regular choc/vanilla marble, traditional pound cake, amaretto pound cake, and spice cake. All of the flavors were delicious and this cake tasting expirience was much better.
At our first one we were given small samples of cake, w/out frosting, in several flavors. Then we were also given a small spoonfull of different icings and we had to take the icings and combine them with the cake. Well, it was stingy and I paid $25 to do the tasting because this place was recommended by our venue. I thought it was gonna be the place to get our cake from. It wasn’t.
FAST FORWARD: the cake tasting at the place we got our cake from gave us three thickly sliced slabs of each flavor (I’d say each slab was 4 times bigger than the mini squares that the other place gave us). Each slab had icing on it already so it was like getting a legit expirience of cake. Not a mere sample which is hard to judge by sometimes. Anywho……it was good and I liked them all but we went with……
Traditional pound cake — which I think is what his parents had too. All of the cake tasted good and I was a big fan of amaretto as well, but some people don’t like nutty tastes so we went with pound cake. And yaknow what? I’m really stinking happy with the taste of that cake. It was dense and moist and lovely just like pound cake is supposed to be. We are excited. It will be frosted like this:
But with a little bit of pearl beading between each layer. I wanted it originally just like the one above but they were concerned the cardboard which each tier apparently sits on (who knew?) would show through the icing. So in order to avoid that they suggested doing either flowers or a pearl beading. They had a picture of flowers on a chocolate cake which was frosted like the one above….and it was pretty but I wanted something more simplistic I guess? I dunno I kinda needed to make a decision right then and there because we don’t live near where the cake is being made. I liked the look of the flowers but I wanted the main focus to be on our cake topper. I wanted simplicity.
I haven’t found a picture online that shows what our cake should look like. If anyone has seen anything like that could you show me? I’m a more visual person I guess. I feel slightly nervous because I dunno exactly what it will be like o_o. Can you tell I’m a bit of a control freak?
Anywho, Groomy or future in-laws are going to pick it up the day before our wedding because they’re not open the day of our wedding. Not that we could pick it up then anyways as our wedding is in the morning and the cake is like an hour-ish away. =P
We also worked on getting our first dance song. We have a few options in mind but we’re not quite there yet. I dunno.
I was feeling GREAT after getting the rings and cake until I was reminded that we still needed to do x, y, z. I know that my sister and Grandma meant no harm in reminding me but it’s not like I forgot those things. I just wanted to feel good about getting stuff done and then I ended up stressed again. I told them, when I got home, that sometimes I just need to celebrate the little things and that I don’t need to be reminded. I don’t handle stress like a champ. I’m the type of person that every little thing will bug me until it’s all done.
I feel better today — afterall the things we got done yesterday were big things. Does anyone else get kinda down when people remind them of stuff? We were actually going to get our marriage license yesterday but by the time we got back in the state, the court was about to close. So that’ll be another day’s adventure.
