- Wedding: October 2012
My fiance is currently getting his MA in English…Creative Writing emphasis. So for his thesis, he has to create a publishable, working draft of a novel. He is writing a story about a freshman at a high-school, that is closely based on our high-school experience.
(Back story…we were really good friends during high-school, liked each other, never dated. Fell out of touch during college, and got back in touch after graduation.)
He promised that I would get the first draft of the novel. And that the dedication was something special. I was expecting the draft to be done, however, in September or October. Little did I know, he finished it on Thursday the 12th. He surprised me with a copy before a planned picnic lunch on Saturday afternoon. We tried to have lunch at a park near my house, but the mosquitoes made it impossible for us to sit still, so we ALMOST left without the proposal (unbeknownst to me, of course.)
There happened to be a wedding on a hill at the park, so he suggested that we go walk over and take a look at it. I suggested we drive….lol… but he said, no let’s walk. As we were walking closer, my Fiance said, “so I told myself I couldn’t propose to you until I was done with my first draft.” I replied, “Should I expect it sometime soon then?” He said, “yes” , turned around, and got down on one knee in front of me.
I almost didn’t believe it was happening, but as soon as I realized he was serious (and saw him reach for his pocket!) I dropped my keys, and had a chorus of “ohmygod”s playing. He said–among other things–that the second half of his dedication is that his life is now dedicated to me. And he asked me to marry him.
