@nambi_pambi:  It’s an alexandrite. In yellow light, it’s purple. And in white/ outdoor light, it’s green!

A lot of people ask if it is yellow gold (it is).   Then other than the typical that’s beautiful or sparkly, I usually get comments on size.  It isn’t THAT huge, especially by bee standards (1.4 center stone/1.75 tcw).  Some size comments are normal, like that’s really big or something, but others are extremely awkward or rude.  I’ve heard:

“that’s a monstrosity.”  – from a friend’s dad… maybe he didn’t know what “monstrosity” means, but I didn’t appreciate that description…

“you hand is going to have a workout/is your left hand tired?” – nice attempt at a joke, but it was only a little funny the FIRST time I heard it.

“how do you work in that thing?” -I’m an accountant… I sit at a computer all day…?

“he must really love you” -This one is my favorite.  Really? I generally respond, well yes he does. But I HATE this comment and have gotten it more than once.  As if couples with a smaller engagement ring aren’t in love?  Ridiculous.

“what does your Fiance do?” -immediately after asking to see my ring.  This one is also extremely awkward.

“wow, he must have saved up for a LONG time.” -he really didn’t because we’ve both always been extreme savers and he makes a very good living, but I respond, yeah that’s why we’ve been dating for FIVE years.

Or finally just asking how big it is.  I don’t really mind telling, but it is kind of awkward if the person isn’t close to us or asks in a “snarky” way.

@ImagineDragon24:  Just saw that you also get the “he must really love you” line.  Isn’t that the worst!?!

I’ve gotten “Wow, it’s amazing!” & “I saw it sparkling from across the room & I wanted to get a look at it!” & also lot’s of “Oh my gosh, is it real!?”

I’m proud that I have a moissanite, so I tell people what it is 🙂

(It’s a bit tinted here, since all the walls were yellow)

Haven’t had the chance to show many people yet, but the few that have seen it said the typical : “It’s so sparkly!”, “It’s perfect!” and “Wow, that’s beautiful!”. [my future sister in law is pretty jealous, she has a very small solitaire and she instantly told my brother to get her something bigger!].

“Oh, wow, it’s gorgeous!” or, “It’s HUGE! Is it real?” I’ve even had one lady grab my hand and say, “That’s the ring I want! Give it to me!!” Uh, no lady. Back off.

Post your ring AND your dress (even if you don't have one yet)! : wedding vera IMG 2476

“I love Tiffany’s rings!”  It’s not from Tiffany’s, it’s just an identical knife edge setting.  Most of my friends have princess cut stones and cathedral settings, so my ring is “unsusual” in our group.

Favorite comment ever: “Hey later can we go skating on your ice rink?”

“It is so sparkly!” and for people that know me… “It is so YOU!”

Everyone always loves my ring :). They say how unique it is and I often hear that is has a vintage vibe. Literally everyone asks if he picked it out himself or if I helped.

I normally have people comment on how clear/flawless the stone looks. I’ve had a few people actually say “That’s what an engagement ring SHOULD look like!”, and then I’ve had people call it “dainty”, but in a condescending way. Eh, as long as I love it!

I commented on this thread already, but since then I’ve had a couple of people ask me if it’s an emerald, probably because that’s the only green stone they’ve heard of 🙂 (it’s peridot)

For positive, I get “wow, that’s a gorgeous ring” and the other usual, like “it’s so you” and all thats.

Odd ones I get are… you put a solitaire in there instead of a square diamond? And now that I’m married and I wear my band, a few people have said that the two don’t go well together and I should either upgrade the e-ring or get a smaller wedding band.

They usually say how pretty my rings look and they like the stacked look. It’s an emerald shaped diamond on a split shank, with my plain gold wedding band (19K) and 2 eternity bands. I wear it this way all the time, it’s become part of me lol! Sorry about the fuzzy pic!
