My girlfriend and I seem to have come to an agreement that a Moissanite ring would be best for us. This allows us to have reallocate funds for a trip, and this will allow her to worry less about the ring in terms of babying it/losing it/getting it stolen, etc.
But I kept reading that the patent on it will expire soon. Next month in fact. Does this mean that as soon as September rolls around, we should see tons of Forever Brilliant by C&C imitators and such? They’re synthetic gemstones after all, so I imagine some labs must be getting prepared to get their products out on the market.
Seems silly to spend hundreds on a gemstone which will see a fall in price soon

Charles and colvard ‘s prices will most likely remain the same. They will be releasing a colorless moissanite soon to keep up with amora gem ultra and other future competitors. It has taken years for them to achieve the quality of stone they have now, and it seems to get better every year. So im guessing that it will take these other moissanite vendors quite some time to achieve C&C standards. I personally would not put off buying a moissanite in hopes that these new comers will produce the same quality for less money, as this is very unlikely to happen right off the bat. Charles and colvard probably will not need to lower their prices, they have tons of marketing and are the creators of moissanite. I imagine they will remain the #1 moissanite source for years to come.

I disagree. My guess is that other companies have moissanites all ready in the works and have been working on perfecting the cut, etc. Just becasue the patent is still intact does not mean other companies are not doing research, etc. I do think the prices will drop due to competition. I would not be surprised if in a few years there will be other manipulations of the silicon stones,ie variations of the stone similar to the Amora gem.
