- Wedding: September 2011
Well bees, I too have graduated from the waiting boards. And the proposal was better than I had ever dreamed.
So first, a short synopsis of “us.” Drummerboy and I started dating in February 2010. However, his sister and my sister were best friends going back to girl scouts. Our mothers were the troop leaders together.
Ever since I can remember, his sister would say to me, “You have to date my brother, he’s perfect for you.”Our sisters even went so far as to try and set us up on a “sibling night” dinner in 2009, but I was in another relationship at the time.
Well, drummerboy and I finally got the message, and it turns out that his sister was right. We are a perfect fit.
So nine blissful months of dating later, it was time for Thanksgiving. His parents and sister were planning on joining my family for dinner that night.
We have this fun tradition in our family that any man that wants to seriously date one of the daughters has to open this puzzle box that my dad brought back from a trip. It’s a small wooden box, and it is quite hard to figure out how to open it.
So, I’m sitting with drummerboy, with the whole family surrounding us at Thanksgiving, and he’s trying his darndest to open this box. I kept thinking “oh no, he’s not going to open it!”
Well, after what seemed like an eternity he opens it. Then he turns to me and says, “there is something in the box!”
“there’s never anything IN the box,” I say.
“Yes there is, look!” he says.
I looked in the box to find a beautiful engagement ring!
Drummerboy took the ring, got down on his knee and said (I think because I was in shock at this point), “I love you more than anything and I want to marry you. Will you marry me?”
I exclaimed, “Yes!” through my happy tears.
We hugged and kissed, and then I proceeded to hug every member of our families and show off my new shiny ring!
My grandfather cried, which I think was the sweetest thing.
It was truly perfect, and our families mean so much to us. I’m so happy we could share that special moment with them!
I still need to upload ring and engagement night photos.
Now the planning begins!
