P.S. You should meet him. Who knows you might hate him and force yourself to really shop around. Sometimes the really creative types are quirky. I met a videographer once that I absolutely LOVED. If he just kept his mouth shut, I would have made a deposit instantly, but he was a jerk and refused to deal with him.

I almost had a heart attack over the price of the photographer I loved too. I found some other ones and they were all -okay- well, nice even, but just not nearly as special and artistic as the one I loved.
I guess really it depends on how much the photography means to you and if you’re mom is truly okay with spending that kind of money. My parents are paying for my photographer too, and when I told them the price they didn’t even blink and just said go for it, a good photographer’s worth it. I would tell your parents that you’re feeling a bit guilty about the price and ask their opinion. Also think about how truly important the photography is going to be to you later on. It is nice to have truly memorable pictures of your wedding, especially the artistic ones that really capture the feel and have that “in the moment” look to them.
And definitely, at that price, meet him. If you’re paying someone that much, you really need to know for certain that you’re going to love him and his work. In person meetings can really make or break these kinds of things.
