CymoneD:  My ring was done by John Ephram of EJCollections on etsy. He was incredible to work with!

1. What was your design inspiration? (Photos if you have them)

2. How long did it take for you to complete and confirm your design?

I spent a couple of months collecting inspiration pics, but by the time I emailed John to get started I had a solid idea of what I wanted. It isn’t a super complicated design, so we only had to work out details such as stone size, profile height, etc., and that didn’t take very long at all.

3. How long did it take to make?

I had my ring on my finger only 3 weeks after emailing John the inspiration pics.

5. Your favorite part about your ring!

Honestly, everything. I think that’s the beauty of custom work, you can specify exactly what you want and bring what’s in your imagination to life. I’m so happy with my ring, it’s the simple, elegant, and exactly what I was hoping for 🙂

CymoneD:  Great thread idea! My ring is still in the CAD process. I’m impatient but I want it to be perfect!  The odd thing I’ve noticed about custom is that I feel pressure to make exactly the right decisions. If he had given me the ring we are basing this off of, I would have been perfectly happy- I actually got emotional in the store. But now that I’m nitpicking every little detail, I am hoping I will be happy with the whole and not see any small decisions that I regret later on. 

1. What was your design inspiration? (Photos if you have them) 

This Coast ring we saw in Robbins Brothers of all places. I always assumed we would want to go custom since our family stone is a high color and I wanted any side stones to match.  Also, since I’m a size 4.5, it would have taken two months to come in!

Crappy stock photos: we both love the two tone of the rose gold version, especially since the white gold is visible in the top view- the gallery has sort of an underneath split shank. I love the elegant sweep upwards. 

2. How long did it take for you to complete and confirm your design?

So far, we have had two CADs. The first was not close; the second was almost there so I am hoping the third will be perfect. I’ll post the final CADs if the thread is still active. We’re working with David Klass (mostly with Amy) and we’re local so I’ll get to try on my wax. 

3. How long did it take to make?

So far, it’s been two weeks for three CADs (we are supposed to get the third very soon). They said it typically take 25 days if the first CADs are approved, so hopefully only a couple more weeks. I know he is going to hang on to the ring for awhile though planning his proposal, so there’s no real hurry. 

4. CAD, Cast, or Handmade? 

CAD/cast. We can’t afford handforged. David’s prices are extremely reasonable. 

5. Your favorite part about your ring!

That will have to wait til I see the finished product!

Small update on my part.. I just dropped my ring off at the Jewelers! We came up with some sketches and discussed price.. Eek. I’m nervous! But so excited!

CymoneD:  I am nervous, but I somehow feel calmer now since I have from the beginning of this whole debacle! The last 2 jewelers who just ruined them didn’t really listen to me. This jeweler listened, looked at my pictures and was like “Oh you want this” and sketched exactly what I wanted. And is going to be coming up with a CAD drawing, and if that doesn’t work, is going to mold it. I told him my story and he’s so committed to making sure he does a good job and stay within my budget. And that makes me feel really happy.

CymoneD:  I have an old friend of mine who’s a jeweler. She creates this amazing, very modern statement jewelery, almost industrial. I wanted her to make my ring. I was inspired by these double rings she makes, with concave cut gemstones:

I did, however, want a purple stone. 

It took around six weeks to source the stone and make the ring, and I’m getting it on the 25th, not long to go now! I haven’t seen the result in person yet, but here are the pictures. As per the image above, you can see how the wedding band will fit in nicely with the ring. The band will be polished, the e-ring is brushed (except for the bit around the stone itself, which is also polished. 

I just love the fact that it was made by my good friend, that it’s unique and visible from across the room. I am a bold person, have purple hair… it’s my second wedding and had a traditional diamond the first time round. This time I thought I’d go for a statement piece. 

Can’t wait to see it in person!
