so a good friend of mine at work is getting married this friday night.
She and her Fiance have been engaged for 2 months (together for 5 years)…they wanted a short engagement. (she’s also been married before, he has not)
anywhoo – she’s been talking about how excited she is to be able to wear her mother’s wedding dress (who passed away a few years ago)…and she had some alterations done to it to change the bottom but use the top…
well we were just talking about her being ready for this friday and she told me that the seamstress BUTCHERED the dress. she went to pick it up last week and first thing was that she made the bottom WAY too short – like right above her ankles! 4.5 inches too short, she wanted it floor length.
So the seamstress said she’d work on it and have it ready the next day…apparantly she put some sort of band around the middle of the dress to be able to add more fabric and when my friend tried it on she was horrified. 🙁
now my friend is just too nice of a person to say anything so she left with the dress and said that her Fiance could tell something was wrong – she showed him the dress, he agreed how awful it was/is and they ended up going to davids bridal.
luckily she was able to find something that she fell in LOVE with and they are being so great as to do immediate alterations and will have it ready by thursday.
but I just feel SOOO bad for her!
have you all had any situation like this?

Umm I hope she didn’t pay for it. That sucks!

Wow that is awful! I am glad she found something she likes! Maybe she can use her mother dress for something else.. ring bearers pillow, bouquet handle, or something.

that’s awful!! i am glad she was able to find something else so fast, but jeeez. she should get a FULL refund from the seamstress. anything less is unacceptable!

i agree. but I don’t think she will. 🙁
i was just floored when she told me though. there’s no WAY i would been that nice! she deserves full refund – but I didn’t ask her if she’s going to…

I’ve had a situation with a fancy dress I had altered to attend a wedding. I didn’t try it on when I picked it up (I was in a rush). When I got home, the dress was horrid (way too tight and seams not straight). I was leaving on a flight early the next morning and the shop was closed. I took it back when I got back in town and the lady had the balls to tell me it was my fault for only giving her a week to get the work done. I was appalled. She tried to fix it, but the dress was ruined. I did not ask for my money back (in hind sight, I should have). I would be crushed if it was my mother’s wedding dress.

WOW! horrible experience! FOr sure try and get a refund or at least a credit, maybe for your gown to get preserved!!!! SOMETHING! It’s hard with that situation because nothing can replace the sentimental value of your mom’s dress!

My Alvina Valenta for my sisters wedding was “finished” the day before her wedding-we were furious. I went to pick it up on saturday afternoon ( the wedding was on sunday) and I didn’t check before I left. I get home and the corset/bra is still hanging on the hanger and there were still pins going down the side where it was taken in! I was furious, and the store i think closed at 5…I cant remember why I couldn’t take it back, but that sounds right. the taylor at my drycleaners was sick, but they gave me a semestress’s phone number-she was JUST about to leave work and I was like crying so she said she would wait. We drove like a half hour away and she did an AMAZING job and only charged us $15. ugh-it was awful.
