I think about all the times people said “whyyyy are you waiting soooo longggg to get married????” and I have a little chuckle.  We have the whole wedding pretty much paid off right now.  No credit cards, no loans, no using the money we get at the wedding to pay it off.

@ottawabride: Definitely!  I like to think I am a NYC expert ;o)  I promise I won’t recommend TGIFriday’s or anything for dinner hehe

That’s great!  It’s great not to have any debt from the wedding for sure, especially since it’s only one day.

@OttawaBride: It’s so sad, because the majority of tourists eat at places like that because they’re afraid to venture outside of Times Square.  You won’t fall into a black hole past 42nd street I promise ;o)

I agree! I’m also buying a lot as we go with my spending money for DIY projects, etc, and so it’s not like, “this is a chunk of the wedding budget” – which gives me much more room to play with the actual budget. I love it!

I totally agree!  We aren’t getting married until next Oct and we are just started to save!  By the time we get married we should be in pretty good shape!  Personally we did not want to have to pay off our wedding for the next five years.  We figured we’d save first and then get married.

I think the best thing about it is time.

More time to plan.

More time to save so you can get what you want.

More time to be engaged – go ahead and tell me you don’t love having people ask you about your wedding and squeal over your ring!

Good for you guys though – We will have been engaged for 25 months when we get married and overall it’s been pretty stress free and we’ll come out owing nothing.

I have to say I don’t agree. My fiance and I have been delt some really rough financial hits over the 3yrs that we have been engaged. Including him being jobless twice. I think if we had had a better 3yrs then we could definately be having a very expensive wedding. As is though we get to do almost everything that we want and most importantly at the end of the day we’re going to be Mr. & Mrs. And I don’t have a clue what the best thing is. Maybe that we’ve had a lot of time to think exactly what we want not just in our wedding but in life together.
