I went to get coffee before work and as I was talking to my coworker in the office she gasped and pointed out that my e-ring was missing its stone. Cue panic for a few minutes, until I reached into my pocket and found it – must’ve fallen out when I reached in to get my keys.
I stuck the stone back in its setting, but it’s lopsided now and looks terrible. The shop we bought it from is a couple blocks from work, so I’m going to take it and see if they’ll re-set it during my lunch hour…
But honestly? The whole thing makes me THAT much more frustrated with my choice in ring and our lack of ability to purchase the new one we’ve been talking about. I’ve long sensed that this ring wouldn’t take to daily wear for longer than a year, and here it is, less than a year since we bought it, and the stone’s gone and fallen out.

Here’s a pic of it in all its lopsided glory:

Oh no! I hope they can reset it for you, no problem. What a terrible way to start your day!

Oh no! 🙁
I’d be upset too. I think pearls are held in by glue in settings like that? Is it possible to look at another setting…maybe something that isn’t too expensive. At least for now until you can get the new one you want.

gah what a hideous way to start your day!
I hope they can reset it during your break. Update us later!

Oh no! I really like your ring, too 🙁
I’m hoping the place you got it from can fix it for you. That totally sucks. And sending you dust to get the new ring you want, as well!

My sister had a beautiful pair of pearl earrings, but they kept falling out of the setting. Luckily she always found them. After this happened three times the jeweler finally did some kind of screw setting where they actually drilled into the pearls and attached the setting right into the pearls. Apparently pearls and metal just don’t respond well to even the best jewelry glue, but the combination of the screw post and the glue seems to be holding up much better. I’m not sure if it would work for a ring, but it may be worth asking about. Good luck!

Oh no! I hope the jeweler can fix it!! It’s such a pretty ring!

humpf… that sucks! but luckily you had it in your pocket so not as bad in the end… for me that would be a happy ending hehe
I wear pearl earrings all the time, quite decent size. They were loose pearls that belonged to my grandma (she had a bunch of them) and I picked 2 and had them set into earrings. they are glued, not drilled that i know of (i can see a little teeny bit if glue in one side of one of them) and i’ve worn them all day, everyday of my life for maybe…8 years in a row! i never take them off unless i have an event or something and want to wear something different, maybe 4-5 times a year max. showers, sleeping, everything. They have NEVER fallen out and the setting is way less “hugging” than your ring!
So there must be a better way to stick it on!!

Oh no!! I’m sure they can fix it and it’ll look good as new, but you’re right about worrying that it won’t hold up forever. Pearls are finicky that way, so I hear. Have you looked at ‘cheaper’ alternatives to hold you over that you won’t care about getting banged up? My engagement ring came with a matching band for $63 (before the sale price) and it will work nicely until we can afford a more permanant solution in a few years. Then you can wear your beautiful pearl engagement ring on special occasions or on your right hand when you know you’ll be gentle and not have to worry about it.

I have a beautiful pearl ring, and it always falls out of the setting, too! Seems like it’s a common problem with pearls, I wonder what the jeweler will suggest to make it more practical for long term wear?
