I posted on the Waiting board when I got engaged last week. Now I’ve had some time to let it sink in! And since the proposal I have gotten the back story from a bunch of different people, so it all makes sense now! Here’s my proposal story..
So last week I had a midterm on Wednesday, and a paper and presentation due on Thursday. I spent Sat and Sunday that week at the library, and told SO he’d have to make plans without me all weekend b/c I had to study. Before going to the library on Sunday, however, I did do laundry and clean his “man cave”.
So on Tuesday I went straight from work to the library since it was my last day to study before my midterm. Fiance called and asked me not to stay out late and to try to be home by 10PM, which I found strange. I told him I’d try. Then while at the library he texted me a few times asking when I’d be home and to let him know when I was on my way. I didn’t leave the library until 11PM and got home at 11:30. When I opened the screen door to our house, there was a single rose pinkish purple rose there. He always gets me flowers so I didn’t think anything other than “aww how sweet.” Then when I opened the front door there was a trail of rose pedals sprinkled on the steps leading upstairs into the living room and they made a circle. I suspiciously followed the trail and when I got to the living room my Fiance came from the back room with a suit on. He pulled me into the circle of rose pedals and began giving me a speech about how he wants to spend his life with me (that’s the only line from it I remember), then got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. He handed me the ring box and I just pull him up and hug him with this huge grin on my face. He had to remind me I didn’t answer his question so I finally said yes, of course! Then he said are you going to put the ring on, so I asked him to put it on for me. And when I looked I noticed it was the ring I wanted! He was so tired because he had been waiting up for me all night. So we ended up celebrating with wine the next evening, and went out over the weekend.
The next day was the day of my midterm and I could not focus at all!!! I was trying to get in some last minute studying but instead just ended up calling a bunch a family and friends to tell them the good news. I really couldn’t enjoy the feeling of being engaged until after my midterm and presentation! FI’s timing was awesome, haha! But I can’t complain since I was definitely not expecting it! He’s great.
I found out his plan got thwarted a few times! My mom told me she knew like 3 weeks beforehand and he actually tried to get her to come up (she lives 3 hours away) and surprise me with a proposal along with his family. But she told him she didn’t think she should be there. Then a couple weeks ago Fiance and I were at a wine tasting event with one of my best friends and her bf, and he wanted to propose there but apparently she told him not to and that she’d help him plan a surprise. THEN I find out that when he old his brother that he was going to plan a surprise with friends and family, he told him it shoudld just be between he and I. So I think he just finally got tired of holding onto the ring and decided to do it at our home with just us. The last funny part is that he thought when I cleaned his man cave over the weekend that I found where he had hidden the ring, since apparently I rearranged the area where it was. I totally didn’t, but he was convicned I found it and knew it was coming which made him go ahead and do it even faster. Hence why de did it in the middle of the week the day before my midterm!!
Haha, men. Gotta love ’em!
