It’s funny, I’ve never cared at all about the royal family or royal weddings or babies or anything like that. But with this couple, I can’t help but smile. Maybe it’s because she’s American but they just both seem so happy and in love. They’re smiles are contagious. I was so happy to hear this news! They both seem like they’ll be lovely parents 🙂

bethio :  If I were you, I’d give birth the day after they did, so that you can overshadow their announcement (everyone knows the newest baby is the best one). I’m genuinely shocked they didn’t even check in with you before announcing!!

1.) We can’t assume there weren’t any issues. She may have had IVF or IUI for all we know. She and her previous husband never had children, and she could have a history of fertility problems. If she DOES then she and Harry would have been seeing an RE before they were even married. I don’t understand why everyone assumes they didn’t have any issues, and that they were able to concieve “naturally.” If nothing else, the range of experiences we see here on the TTC boards should caution us against assuming anything when it comes to another couple’s TTC journey. Of course, they MAY have gotten pregnant naturally and easily, but we can’t know that.

2.) OMG I’M SOOOO EXCITED FOR THEM. I have been following all the “baby bump” hype for the last month or two, ever since that blue ruffle dress, and I’ve been convinced all along she was pregnant!! I agree with PP – Harry seems like a natural with kids, and he and Meghan are both very warm, down to earth personalities. They’ll make great parents.

3.) I THINK that the only 2 pieces of information we’ve been given are:

a) MM’s had her 12 weeks scan. All we can glean from this is that she is at LEAST 12 weeks. She could be further along. and
b) She’s due in spring. This could be any time from March to May.

4.) I’ve seen some grumbling that they chose to announce on National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day. I doubt anyone was aware of the significance of the day when they chose it for their announcement, but you’d think the royal family would have people researching this stuff!

5.) SO so so so excited for them. And also excited to follow MM’s fashion choices as the bump grows!!

duchessgummybunns :

I saw that people were upset about that too. Is it a Remembrance Day outside of the us? The us has a lot of national days and remembrance days, probably multiple on each day of the year. I cannot come up with one that even comes close to what people experience with pregnancy and infant loss so I’m not going to bother listing them, I don’t want to take away from the seriousness of the losses by listing one of the inane national days that occur each day in the us.

I will mention that October is breast cancer awareness month as well as domestic abuse awareness month, as an example. Is it breast cancer and domestic abuse awareness outside of the us too?

duchessgummybunns :  i heard Pippa went in to labor yesterday. It’s possible they felt Megan’s bump was too difficult to hide and/or something she refuses to eat on tour would give her away and they figured it’d be better if her announcement didn’t come on the heels of Pippas child’s birth as that could be considered thunder stealing?

I’m a huge royal fan and I really love Harry and Meghan as a couple. I don’t know a ton about Meghan but I know Harry is so cute with children and I really think he’s going to be a great dad.

I can’t wait!!

Sansa85 :  That’s a good point. Like, why should British royals be fussed about America’s “special” days??

I found this on the wiki: “October 15 is observed annually in Canada, United States, Australian States of Western Australia, New South Wales, Norway, Italy and Kenya.” So England does not observe this day anyway.

anondotcom :  I was predicting they would announce b/c I thought she’d have to skip the Fiji/Tonga leg of the trip. I also thought it would be perfect timing to increase interest in the tour and turnout numbers. I ALSO thought – if she IS pregnant, they’re going to want people to know on the off chance that yeah, she has to refuse food, or she unexpectantly gets sick and has to skip an event or two, etc.

I also thought it was kinda weird they “announced” to the family at Eugenie’s wedding, but it makes sense with the tight timing.

I think you’re right, they wouldn’t have wanted to overshadow Pippa’s birth either. So it’s… wait for the like, 1 week span of time between the wedding and Pippa’s due date to mitigate “thunder stealing” as much as possible. lol

ETA: Wow, I said “I also thought” a lot. Can you tell I’m excited?!? lol

I’m happy for them and really pleased that they made the announcement during their tour so we get lots of pics of them for the next couple weeks.

Just this weekend, I was at a community event and saw a tall, handsome young man who was clearly multi-racial and had a head full of curly bright red hair. I leaned over to my husband and said “That’s what Meghan and Harry’s kids will look like.” My husband was like “Who?” 😛

They had to wait until after Eugenie’s wedding so they didn’t upstage it.

Twizbe :  I’m with you!  My first thought when I heard the news was to stress out about possible baby names.  I’m due in March.  Our boy name is fine but our girl name (which we chose in 2015 and would have been my son’s name if he was a girl) is one they’re considering.  I would REALLY prefer if they didn’t choose it!

elderbee :  I think it’s great news! They will be great parents.  I don’t spend much time following their news and while they’re in Aus I wouldn’t go line the streets, but  I’m anti-republic so I’m glad the Royals seem to be quite popular at the moment and this will only increase their popularity.

Tough on Meghan though as an older mum, she’ll still be expected to pop out of the hospital looking fresh, and be back to pre-pregnancy weight within a few weeks.  Everyone will be looking to compare her to Kate and Diana.
