I had a similar experience. When we decided to go ring shopping we hit the big commerical stores first, robbins brothers, shane co, zadok (houston jeweler)…while the settings were pretty and designers like simon g the center stones at these store were just ok and expensive! We then went to the designer stores like Tiffanys, De Beers, Cartier, David Yurman, Bvlgari…we fell in love with the solitaires at De Beers. They sparkled like nothing we’d seen and the settings fit my personality better. Cost wise there was about $1-5k difference at all these stores compared to the big box stores. He got me a De Beers! Honestly, just get what you want, if your heart is set on tiffany’s dont settle for a replica! Fiance went that route first (i never saw but he said it was awful) and ended up selling it and getting me the real deal!

This is an oldish thread…but personally I would rather have a bigger diamond of great quality than a Tiffany ring.  It’s how it looks on my hand and that is all I care about.  I can have a 2ct great quality stone or a 1 carat to .75 carat equal quality.. Tiffany…no contest to me!

When I ran my 4Cs stats through Blue Nile my Tiffany ring was only 3k more. That’s more than reasonable for a luxury brick and mortar markup that comes with amazing service and warranty for life, and shopping with confidence knowing all the diamonds are above a certain (high) bar. Not to mention- the style and details of the setting are worth the cost. The BN “Tiffany setting” just doesn’t compare- the grace of the basket, the metal work, the knife edge. Not the same- and I just dont do knock offs on principle.

Then there’s the diamond itself… it goes ” beyond the 4 Cs” as they say at T&C and that really shows. The diamond is so brilliant and alive- way more so than any diamond among my family/peers or that I see around. The cut is truly excellent as is the symmetry and polish. When I plug beyond the 4 Cs into BN… It says zero diamonds match.

Im not saying T&C is the right choice for everyone- if saving a couple grand is more important than the rock, or it’s all about size size size, or your not a design person and can’t see/care about the knockoff differences then yeah, go else where! But for us there was def a Tiffany difference and it was worth it (We also went to David Yurman, Cleef, Cartier as FH insisted on brick and mortar, and a trusted establishment that would never close in our lifetime)
