Yes, that is what you should do. With any vendor, wait until the wedding is over (by a week or so) when you come down from cloud 9 and are able to evaluate the service that was provided. A tip only goes to those who went above and beyond the call of duty.

We tipped a few vendors day of, but that doesn’t mean that’s the only way to do it. If you feel they’re deserving of the tip, you can do it after-the-fact.

P.S. I’ll move this post to the “Etiquette” board for you. 🙂

I think most people expect to be tipped on the day they perform the service.  I also think that the tip would be divided among the servers – the Maitre D doesn’t get it all.  That would not be spelled out in your contract.

If you’re paying 20% upfront, then the whole staff should be tipped from that fee.  If they aren’t, both you and the staff are getting robbed, IMO.

@Melini: That was my understanding, too…

If you are giving out tips the night of, give them to each person individually. I’d never give anything to the maitre’d unless it was for him personally.

I think you can do it however you want to do it. If you’re going away on your honeymoon immediately after and get busy post-wedding, you may never send them, so I think that’s why many people hand them out at the end of the night . You don’t need a week to evaluate the services…you’ll know right away.

I’ve been wondering about this as well…are we also supposed to tip the florist and band and DJ?

@Evie19: We didn’t tip the florist or the photographer until later. We did tip the DJ,but you can tip whomever you feel has gone above and beyond for you.
