I just had my hair and make-up trial last night.
I really liked my hair, but the make-up is another story …
The make-up artist didn’t listen to what I wanted/didn’t want at all. I sent her photos in advance of what I’d like, but she did her own thing instead. I told her I didn’t want lipgloss because the fiancé thinks its too sticky and I don’t like the high shine look. I asked for lipstick instead and she literally said, “Well, then it’s just not going to look good”. Uhh, okaaay.
Then she went crazy with the eyeliner. I told her I didn’t like the eyeliner (on the bottom at least) and she told me I “had to” have it there otherwise my eyes would be “way too open”. What?! I thought the wide open eyes look was a good thing?
I eventually persuaded her to take the lower eyeliner off and do a touch of mascara on the lower lashes instead. That looked much better, but the shadow still wasn’t right. She didn’t do the darker ombre effect I was asking for (basically, it’s the eyeshadow I’ve done for years on a daily basis, just darker for better photos) and I gave-up.
When I got home, I added some of my own touches …
I took off the gloss and layered two of my own lipsticks, I added on the eyeshadow in a more ombre look, and I blended more of my blush in.
Voila! It looked much better after. Smiley face!
But now I’m not too sure what to do. Some friends are telling me to do my own make-up for the Big Day. Others say to try a different artist altogether. And still I think I should give her another shot and just be more assertive/add my own touches for my wedding.
What do ya’ll think?
