While I’ve seen some comments warning brides to “BEWARE” of the woman who wears their makeup a certain way when choosing a makeup artist…I don’t really agree with that. A TRUE makeup artist can make up anyone as the CLIENT sees fit, regardless of how her (the MUA) personal style is. Not how the makeup artist ‘feels’ like doing it. I get a bit offended at times because as a MUA myself, there are days when I want to go all out, and have on very dramatic eye makeup…other times, I want to be more simple and natural looking.
I think in order to really earn the title of a makeup ARTIST, they have to be versitile in style, technique etc. They have to understand the ‘look’ their client is going for. If the client doesn’t have any idea what they want, it’s up the MUA to ask their client questions. Such as what they would normally do as far as makeup goes…and then ask if they want to go for something similar or try something new. If you have a bad experience with one MUA, try another one. We’re not all the same, we don’t all do the same types of looks. Please don’t let one bad experience ruin it for the future.
The reason for trials, is exactly that…a trial…client’s can suggest changing the colors the MUA used, or going a little darker with shadows etc. Any GREAT MUA won’t be offended in any way, if their client wants to try another color or change something. They will do what makes their client happy! It’s all about making the client feel great about the work you’ve done. It will also reassure them that they will look great on their big day!!
I hope this advice hits home for some.
Until next time Bees
