I think before you ask them to buy it, I would ask if they have plans to ever where one again. I would hate to ask FI’s friends to buy when I know 3 of his groomsmen will never wear one again.

I’ll bite the practical bullet here and tell you that it is in bad taste to ask the groomsmen to buy their tuxes. It’s costly enough for them to rent, why would they buy them for your wedding? They will be renting tuxes for their own wedding too.

We rented from Savvi Formalwear.  We ended up needing 15 tuxes, and got 2 of those for free.  Each tux was $137.  It would have been silly to ask our guys to buy, as most of them have no need for a tux to sit in their closet – especially my 14 year old brother.

We had no horror story, everything from start to finish was awesome and completely painless.

Some men have lots of places to wear tuxes! I really think it’s an investment piece that all men should have in their closets. Fiance will definitely buy a new one for the wedding.

On the other hand, I doubt his groomsmen even own a suit…. They will probably rent and I wouldn’t ask them to get the shiny tux shoes either.

@runsyellowlites: Can you give me some info on your experience with Studio Suits? I looked them up under vendors but didn’t see anything. Their prices on linen suits are mighty appealing!

ETA: I hit send before I finished! I would really rethink asking your guys to buy a tux unless you can find one for a comprable price to what it would cost to rent. It’s an awfully big expense! I agree that a custom tailored suit looks great though!

@MissMarine We haven’t ordered yet but so far their corrospondance has been good… usually takes about 1 day for them to get back to me (i figure this is due to the time difference in location)

Other brides have been really happy with them from what I’ve seen

I would ask them what their return policy or alteration policy is. I tried to look on their website but couldn’t find anything. A lot of times, there will be alterations, even with a custom made product — it’s part of the process where tweaks need to be made. So you should take that into account when looking at the price.

Good luck! 🙂

@runsyellowlites:  Thank you so much.  I have been looking a little more online too.  I think this would be great if you could have the guys buy suits for the same price as renting them.  My fiance was just in a wedding this past summer and his suit from Savvi was horrible.  You could see the hem lines and the pants made him look like a penguin!  I have read that some people ordered one suit as a trial run.  I think we might do the same. Only problem I am having is that most have ordered linen suits and that is all the reviews are really about, I am looking to order black suits, in wool I guess…

We debated on what to do. But we decided to go with black suits just because everyone can rewear them.

Some guys have no more use for a black suit than they do for a tuxedo. And keep in mind when comparing rental vs. purchase that, while rental includes everything, buying requires the purchase of not only the suit/tux but shirt, tie, belt, shoes, alterations, etc.

We are doing a more relaxed wedding so our guys are wearring linen and at 150$ its less expensive for them to buy it than to rent a tux. Just not a fan of tuxes at summer weddings. Im orderring fabric swatches tonight from studiosuits and we will see from there. One of our groomsmen is a size 56-58 waist so this has made my life hell and we must order custom or have the guys wearring different things. We hope this all works out with one groomsmen overeas and one over weight and one athletic and one skinny lol wow what a bunch lol.
