Hi fellow brides!
I have been engaged for just over a year now and our big day is at the end of this upcoming August. When we first got engaged I was uber excited (of course) and jumped the gun when it came to my dress. (sounds familiar right?) I didn’t intentionally go looking for dresses early with the purpose to buy anything but rather, I was out one day and my mom and I popped into a store simply because they had a “bridal sale” sign out front. Well, a dress caught my eye, I tried it on and I loved it. I really really did love it but I did NOT want to make a decision that day as it was so far away from our big day. Of course, the girls who worked at the salon did their whole sales pitch “it may not be here when you come back, if you like it you should get it” thing. I am not one to make rash decisions, I like to spend my time looking and researching, plus I didnt even get to take a picture to send to my Maid/Matron of Honor and ask her opinion. Once they told us the price, I said yes to the dress. Flash forward a few days later and I can’t find the dress anywhere online. I then realize it’s a bridesmaids dress in Ivory, which they sold to us for double the price! It was all sorted out, but I’m still suspicious of them. In the end, we got the dress for $230. My mom told me since it was so cheap and so early if I changed my mind, I could always get something else. I do love the first dress that I have. It is really nice, and it’s simple but still elegant. “Understated elegance” as I like to say. We are getting in an orchard, a very natural setting, minimal decor, I’m a very “earthy” laid back bride, so it suits the venue. However, as time has gone on, the wow factor has dissapeared for me. I do think that since I often spend s much time looking at other options, I could always find a dress that is “better” I also am starting to think that the lace accross the back makes my athletic back look a lot wider than it is. I will also have to buy a beaded belt for it. I have a really great natural figure, so a lot of altering will have to be done to make it fit a little nicer. I’ve added the pictures here.
Now comes dress #2. I only recently found this after purusing the bhldn website. Their dresses are whimsical and so “me”. I previously tried on a few Watters dresses (loved the Jacinda) but all were out of my price range. And in enters the Wtoo Persiphone. I immediately went to go see it and fell absolutely in love. The 6 sample fit me nearly perfectly and will require very little alternations. I love how it has a small train (my first dress doesnt have one at all) and I also think it highlights my natural figure a lot more. The deep V back is so flattering and I love the natural waist. Please let me know what you think? My mom has come around to the idea of getting it for me (she is paying) but I want to be sure on it before I buy a second dress! I still like the first one, but this one is a bit more “bridal” while still having that “understated elegance” feel with a bit more of a “wow” factor. I want to be the most beautiful thing the day of the wedding, and I don’t want my dress to take away from that (i.e. I don’t want a big showy dress), so then I wonder if this is too fancy?
And for fun, here is a Roma Keveza dress I fell in love with, but it is WAY out of budget. Just wanted to share it because it is so incredible!

I think your original dress is gorgeous, and perfect for an orchard wedding so I voted for it… however, you seem pretty sold on the second dress, so go with whatever you feel best in!

The original dress is goregous however you seemed sold on the second dress. I agree with you it highlights waist and fits you beautifully. I say if it is in your budget and you really want it, get the second dress! It is stunning! 🙂

Three lovley dresses but the BHLDN one ticks all the boxes as far as I can see. Look how lovley it is from the back. Yes, get it!

dress 1 is beautiful on you but there is no comparison to dress 2!

Hello, my friend. The only reason I voted for dress number 2 is this: the way you obviously feel. All the dresses you posted pictures of look absolutely wonderful on you. But this is a once-in-a-lifetime event and you want to FEEL a certain way. The way a dress looks is a matter of perspective and taste. So it doesn’t boil down to just appearances. You want to feel special, beautiful, a certain way. After all, a wedding is about feelings more than it is looks. If dress 1 isn’t doing it for you, do not feel guilty about ditching it. You could also consider using it in other ways: a formal gown for a cruise, your honeymoon, or gala dinner (if you go to those sorts of things…you never know); a second dress for your reception; a backup dress in case something “happens” to your first one (we’ve all heard stories from stains to tears); a dress to use in an out-of-the-box wedding photo shoot after the big day (ones that involve you submerging yourself in water, for instance)…the possibilities are there. 🙂

I didn’t read any of your descriptions and immediately fell in love with the second one on you. It’s gorgeous!

Dress 2! You are stunning in it.

If you looove the second dress and you only paid $230 for the first one, it’s no question! I think they both look amazing on you but if you love dress 2 get it!

Story of my life, literally. Same thing happened to me: I went shopping with my Future Sister-In-Law and found the one, it was $300 and I bought it. Just last week, as I was scanning through weddingbee and I saw so many gorgeous, glamourous gowns that I just wasn’t happy with mine anymore. I was hating it, hating that I had made the decision so quickly. Soooo I posted it on the ‘bee and I got some amazing, supportive feedback from the other girls. One of them, though, told me and showed me it was actually a Mori Lee bridesmaid dress. I was kinda devastated, and appaled that the store never mentioned that! Anyway, this girl’s advice to me was: does it matter? So after all that, I decided to try my dress again, even though I was scared I would hate it. Turns out I remembered why I liked it so much. I’m also a laid-back, earthy, outdoorsy kind of girl, our wedding will be simple, not so much flair, and now I know that was definitely the dress for me. It really is my style. So I’m happy now. 🙂 My Future Sister-In-Law said she remembers my face at the store, even with my “bridesmaid dress” on… lol Anyway, do what feels right to you. Simple and elegant. But if you do prefer the second dress it’s great that you get a chance to change that.

I just want to call your attention to the way you took photos for all 3 dresses! Now I realize that the love for dress 1 is lost. Although I will say its very pretty on you!
Jump to dress #3.. you’re hands are deliberately right in front of the pooch! [the tummy as we call it lol] its like you know the dress is fitted so you’re blocking our [all women!] problem areas.
Now…. look at your badass self in #2.. arms on your hips all sassy..
I like #2 😉
