@srslovebug:  I’m really interested in the motive to see if there was a shutdown connection.  The perpetrator went to the White House then the Capitol?  Something suspicious is going on…

@jadlnc:  Fiance and I spent 6 hours trapped on 95 South on the other side of DC trying to get to King’s Dominion….which is like…a 2 hr drive from our house. They even had the exits blocked and girlfriend had to pee!

That was the worst. day. ever.

That said, I prefer 95 to 295 all day long.

@srslovebug:  Twas a car chase. Someone tried to ram the White House gates and it ended at the Capitol. At least from what I’ve seen so far. But we all know how “accurate” the news is when it’s first reported, lol.

@adoc86:  Are we even allowed to apply for unemployment? We’re not technically unemployed…?

And what about contractors??

@icanhearyousmile:  I don’t know about this particular case, but in a non-recent-events related furlough at our company we were allowed to apply for unemployment.

@icanhearyousmile:  Honestly I wouldn’t have thought so, but this morning on the news I heard about all these govt employees in MD applying for it.

Here is an article about it. It does mention federal contractors in Virigina so I assume that contractors in other states would be eligible as well.

@icanhearyousmile:  I believe you can still file. On the day I was furloughed we were told to print out our W2s and all in the event that we wanted to file for unemployment. In MD I’m not sure when I could actually file though. I think it’s a week?

@adoc86:  Interesting. I’ll pass it by Fiance. He seems to think he’d be retroactively paid, and if we are, it says we’d have to pay it all back. o_O I don’t see how that’s bad, but could get messy. But if it allows us to pay our bills, why the heck not? Thanks for the article! I wouldn’t have thought we could do that because we’re not technically unemployed and it could be “conflict of interest” or “false information.”

Hmmm..something to ponder indeed.

@srslovebug:  The article says Maryland is right away, VA is a week. Ugh, I had school the day of the furlough so they mailed me my packet. 🙁 I am betting EPP is down like everything else *sigh* So I wouldn’t have access to my current W2. Dammit.

@icanhearyousmile:  Oh…interesting. Maybe I’ll file tomorrow. I have to do it over the phone though. Hooray.

@srslovebug:  “Due to abnormally increased call volumes, our operators cannot attend to your call as quickly as they’d like. Your new wait times are [one hour]. Please continue holding, and your call will be answered in the order it was received.”

This makes me beyond livid.

“The Park Service ought to be ashamed of itself, how can you look at them and tell them no?” I dunno, how can you look at US and deny is our livelihoods? How can you look HER in the face while she isn’t being paid because of you and chastize her?!!?

Disgusting.

Luckily for me I am working through the shutdown, and hubs just got called back in for a rotation. However for many it sucks they’re not getting paid right now. My company is doing a lot to offer 2 weeks of pay because they are in the position to do so, they are looking at options if this goes further for those who cant work. My husbands company is making him take leave, luckily for him he has a substantial bank and his current work is a top priority so he also gets rotated in as this thing continues. OVer all it really really sucks though on a lot of levels. The little things like nasa space pictures, panda cam, etc arent a big deal what is a big deal is safety, and the economy.

@icanhearyousmile:  This was the height of hypocrisy and I’m so happy the whole vetrans crowd that was with them respond by telling this guy shame on him. He has a lot of nerve telling a federal employee who is working without pay and following orders, due to his actions.

Also I was watching the news and one members of congress from Texas I think, was like the scariest part of this was the captial police presence was lower then normal due the current sitution. Crazy!
