I’ve had a little bit of input, but he made it clear he didn’t want me completely designing the ring by myself, or even picking it out. I told him I like cushion cuts, 2mm pave bands, single claw prongs, and hidden halos (but not traditional halos). I also told him I’d prefer platinum or palladium, since I have a nickel allergy. I guess that’s a lot of detail, now that I’m reading it all lol. I did tell him I didn’t expect to have everything on my list. He also knows pretty much everything I don’t like and what to absolutely avoid.

DaniGirl03 :  It’s so discouraging when everything becomes difficult all at once, but it sounds like you’re back on your way. Thank you for your continued help with the list.

My SO proposed weeks ago, but I’m just checking in now that everything has settled back in. He proposed at “our spot” at the local state park, which I had predicted he would because it felt like “us”.

In terms of the ring, I had told him that I wanted a bezel setting, not yellow gold, and a quality stone <1 ct. I suggested a lab diamond but said that was up to him. Beyond that I knew he would pick something that we both liked.

He went shopping himself and found a boutique jeweler who does bezel settings and uses ethically-sourced stones and metals. The ring matches up exactly to what I wanted: it’s a round brilliant CanadaMark diamond in a platinum bezel setting. The setting is different from others I’ve seen in that it has a notch in the band below the setting to lower the profile, which I think is great because I did not want a big or tall ring. He did an excellent job with the diamond selection as well.

DaniGirl03 :  Thanks for adding me to the list! Sorry you’ve had a rough go lately, but I’m glad things are looking up now.

girlfriendphd :  Congrats! Your ring is beautiful, and it looks like your boyfriend took your guidance and executed the task perfectly.

As for MY input on the ring… We’ve been talking engagement intermittently for a good while. When he first gave me the go ahead to send him some ideas, I sent him a ton. And then I switched gears and sent him a ton more (different styles). AND THEN I thought I didn’t want a diamond anymore… and then I did, but I wanted a fabulous Art Deco piece. So, it seems that is what he has settled on, and just a few nights ago, he mentioned that someone at work told him about a jeweler who has some really nice deco pieces. Although I’d LOVE for him to choose one of the exact rings I’ve sent him, I get the sense he’s going to go local (instead of going through the online jeweler I provided links to), and I just have to trust that he has a good idea of the look I like. It’ll be a surprise, which isn’t so bad, it just makes me a mixture of nervous and curious!

Crossing my fingers that by end of year, I’ll no longer have to be curious.

I gave him some pictures of styles I liked and told him my hard nos (white gold for example), but otherwise I’m leaving it to him. I rarely see any ring and say ew, gross, and he has good taste so I’m sure I’ll like it. Plus I like the idea of seeing what he chooses for me.

Like other bees here I was honest with my SO from the start that I am extremely picky with jewellery and would like to help him pick however he surprised me and asked me to show him my dream ring and just bought it then and there! I absolutely love my ring and can’t wait to get engaged and see it on my finger. Knowing he has the ring makes the waiting worse! He’s had it since July!

Take #102 off the list! He proposed this morning after I got out of the shower before we went to a meat and beer festival!

We actually had a lot of talks this weekend regarding the style of ring that I like (rose gold morganite with a thin band). He knew the rose gold part but asked for input on the setting, so we looked at some of the ones he was considering and I gave him feedback.

Im glad he asked! He was looking at more ornate settings when I really prefer a thin pave band with an oval, cushion, or pear Center stone.
