I am getting married at Sandals Montego Bay in February of 2014. Most of my guests decided to wait until the last minute to reserve their rooms at the resort. I found out today that the standard rooms are sold out. The only available rooms start at $458 per person, per night. My guests cannot afford that. They were expecting to pay a little over $200 per night.
I am struggling with whether to keep the wedding at Sandals and have the guests that waited to long stay at a different resort and buy day passes for the day of the wedding OR moving the wedding to another resort with more reasonable room prices.
Any suggestions? Anyone have a similiar experience?

@Janineforever: how much notice did your guests have? They’re grown ups and it’s on them if they waited this long to book a room for a destination wedding. You shouldn’t have to uproot your whole wedding for stragglers. Boo them.

@TattedNYBride: +1. If they knew well in advance and chose to wait until the last minute, too bad so sad.

Ya sorry people should know better, are they going to be unhappy? YES, is it your fault or Sandals? NO

@TattedNYBride: The STD’s were sent out last March so they plenty of time. I’m not sure why they waited until the last minute.
I definitely do not want to move the wedding or even change the date.

I’m assuming you and FI picked Sandals vs another resort because that’s the one that you two preferred? Did you have a block of rooms reserved until a certain date? Agree with “too bad so sad.” It’s VERY generous of you to figure out other locations for them/bus passes- but they should pay for the transport themselves.

I agree with all of the PPs. They should not have waited so long to make their reservations. I don’t think you should move your wedding. Can they just stay at another hotel in the area?

This has just happened with our wedding too. At first I felt stressed and then I realized that they are all adults and should have booked sooner. Don’t worry about it!

it’s not your fault. you gave plenty of notice, so don’t feel bad. hold your wedding where you planned to. they’ll figure something out.
they were the ones who waited until the last minute. they have to deal with it. not you.

@Janineforever: I’m almost positive that the room rates you’re seeing for Sandals are not per-person per day, but per-room per day..since all Sandals rooms are for two people. In addition, your guests could stay at Sandals Carlyle, which is at the lowest end of the Sandals chain and is more of a regular hotel, or even Sandals Royal Caribbean which is also in Montego Bay. Sandals offers regular shuttle buses between the resorts for their guests. Hope you have a great time!

I agree. Maybe another Sandals in Montego Bay will be more affordable and they can just shuttle over. I don’t think you should move your wedding though! You pick there for a reason(went with my fiance in 2010 and had an excellent time!its beautiful)! Good luck and congrats on your upcoming wedding:)

@Janineforever: Ughh! that sucks! this is exactly why I gave a due date for people to book by!!! I didnt want to be stuck in a tough situtation like this. If you want alot more people to attend then change the location but if you are happy with who has already booked and the others waited to long then too bad so sad for them!!!
