I just found out that I will be having a work trip and will be out of town the weekend before my wedding. I am a little worried that I’ll need that time to dedicate to last minute things before the wedding. Our wedding is a Friday and I will be coming home the Sunday before, but I will have the rest of the week off. How long did you have off/need off before your wedding? Did you need the weekend before to finish things up? What last minute things should I plan on doing in this time?

Our wedding was a Friday, and I took the week of (and the Monday following) off. We had little things to do, but I was also able to do other stuff (get my hair trimmed/colored, massage, eyelash extensions done, nails, met friends for lunch, etc).
If I rememebr right, we mainly had to make up food cards for each guest and get them into enveleopes (printed each families name on the outside), printed our programs (made them ourselves), finishing making the reception playlist (it was on my iPod), and probably a few more things.
I had a pretty good timeline made to make sure certain things were done… and it all did. We had our rehearsal and dinner Thursday afternoon/evening, but still had the time Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday with other stuff I also did.

I’m taking off the week prior to our wedding. I don’t expect I’ll have to do much wedding-wise until Thursday, but I wanted three days earlier in the week to prep for out of town guests and cleaning, so when I came back from our Honeymoon I wouldn’t have to do squat!

I guess it depends on what type of wedding you are having. Do you have a ton of DIY? A venue you have to decorate yourself? Or – an all inclusive venue where you pretty much just have to show up the day of?
I did some stuff a couple days beforehand – got my nails done, made the hotel bags, etc. but I wasn’t stressed or rushed at all. I dont think being away the weekend before will be a big deal since you have the whole next week off.

I think you’d be fine. Just make sure that you have all your DIY stuff done before you leave for your work trip so that all you have to do after the trip are any beauty treatments or random stuff that will come up. and you said that you’ll be coming back on the sunday and not working that week? So you’ll have at 3-4 days to do any odds and ends that might come up- shouldn’t be an issue I would think.

My wedding is on a Friday in New Jersey. My choir has a concert in Maryland Wednesday night and I’m still being in it! We have to drive up either that night or the next morning because we have our rehearsal/dinner Thursday! It’s last minute, but I don’t anticipate anything crazy popping up! I actually have a work workshop Thursday morning, but decided to go to the makeup session instead. I think THAT would have been cutting it too close.

Since you have the week before off, I think you’ll be okay. I was definitely working on stuff up until the last minute, but we had a lot of DIY, in addition to the nail appointment Thursday, and decorating the hall and church and the rehearsal/dinner on Friday. But I just had Wednesday-Friday off before my Saturday wedding. So technically you’ll have the same number of days off as I did, mine just included Saturday, Sunday, and Wednesday-Friday – whereas yours will be Monday-Friday.

I am taking the week off and I am actually worried I am not going to have anything to do 🙂 I think that having a work trip the weekend before will be fine, it might even help relax since you will have to take your mind off wedding stress. I say take the trip and enjoy your last event before the big day!

I took off the thursday and friday before the wedding (and the whole week after) and it was more than enough time. To be honest I was actually just sitting around for most of it since once my aunts and cousins got into town all the ladies wanted jobs and kept telling me to sit and relax etc so my DH just went to the outlet mall and walked around for a bit looking for some last minute things (a sweater for over my reception dress/ brunch dress since it was a little chillier out than I expected and I think that he needed undershirts or something like that) and went and got our nails done together (love that DH will do that with me! real men have nice nails)
we DIYed about half of the flowers so all the ceremony decorations & arch/chuppah as well as some vases/ candles around the venue (we had the full rental of a 1910 mansion so its was a few different rooms), lanterns going down the path, hotel welcome bags, a food/drink station for during the afternoon (water/chips/snacks etc), a candy bar (though the venue actually set this us – we just brought the supplies) etc so even with a fair amount of stuff going on it actually was really calm and we were in no rush at all

I was on a work trip the week before my wedding. It was awesome! I loved having a chance to get away from the stress. It was not a problem at all to come back and get everything done.
