I am writing this to give hope and inspiration to budget brides who are struggling with the real vs fake flower problem. I went into the bouquet hunt thinking I could get four bridesmaid bouquets and one bride’s bouquet for $100-200 if I chose a relatively cheap flower like daisies. Boy was I wrong. The estimate I got back was $500 for those five bouquets, way more than I had budgeted.
I struggled for a long time coming to terms with the idea of using fake flowers. I have never been a fan, because they neither feel nor smell like the real thing. I always considered people who use them to be cheap, not resourceful.
But in the end I shelved my pride, gathered my Joanns coupons and gift certificates, and came out of the store with $95 worth of fake flowers–enough to make 4 bridesmaid bouquets, one bride’s bouquet, five groom/groomsmen boutonnieres, two fathers’ boutonnieres, one grandfather bout, and two grandmother corsages (still need materials for mother corsage–but I’m matching her dress and she doesn’t have it yet). I then bought 100 silk rose petals for my flower girl online for $11 including shipping. The petals match my scheme EXACTLY.
So I spent $106 on everything, 1/5 of what I would have paid to just get a fraction of what I ultimately needed.
Oh, and did I mention I am THRILLED with the results? I’ve finished the bouts, my bouquet, and one bridesmaid’s bouquet. Here they are, ready and waiting for my wedding in 5 months!
So for all you budget brides (or just brides unwilling to spend so much on fresh florals), fake is fabulous, and I am never looking down on them again!
