I bet all you ladies out there have a word or two that comes to mind when you think of your fiancee proposing. Some may think romantic, some may think beautiful, some may even think funny. For me, when I think of my proposal, only one word comes to mind: CatchPhrase.
Yes, that’s right, I said CatchPhrase.
As in the game.
My fiancee (and now husband) decided that the best way to cheat in the game was to propose to me when it was my turn! (I’m happy to say, his team – the boys- still lost despite trying to derail me. Focus QUEEN here!)
Picture it: it was Labor Day 2012. My boyfriend (at the time, to become fiancee that day, and now my husband) and I were out at his sister’s house with the whole family. His brtoher-in-law, mom, dad, best friend (who happens to be his borther-in-law’s brother) and wife, as well as the BF’s mom (dear family friends) were all together enjoying food and a lazy holiday. In the course of the afternoon, we all decided we would play a game or to. Numbers being what they were, if the game required teams, it wound up being boys vs. girls. Fast forward through a game or two of Snorta (look it up! Its childish but fun!) and Apples to Apples, and we come around to playing CatchPhrase.
For a little back history, my husband and I had been talking about getting engaged/getting married for at least a month before that. Everytime we talked about it, I felt like it was a sure thing. But he still hadn’t proposed! I was starting to give up on getting engaged anytime soon.
So back to playing CatchPhrase. We are all sitting around the game, with my boyfriend/fiancee/husband on my right. Since the game board-thingy is going around clock-wise, it meant that it was his responsibility to pass the game on to me. We are playing for a while, and it is his turn, meaning I’m up next. (Note: I am fiercely competitive when it comes to any kind of game!) So I was getting all geared up and ready to whip out clues in order to pass the game on. Only when boyfriend/fiancee/husband passed me the game board, he also sat down a box on the table in front of me. WHO DOES THAT?!?!? I’m sitting there, stunned, with a ring box staring me in the face, and trying to play CatchPhrase. Somehow I managed to get enough words out that someone on my team got the phrase, at which point I basically THREW the game board of my Future Father-In-Law (sorry!) to turn my attention to the box. I opened it up, found a beautiful temporary engagement rings in it (more on that later) and heard him utter those four little words I had been longing to hear….and the rest is history!
What do you all think of when you think of your engagement? Does anyone else have a wacky story of how/when/where your fiancee/husband finally decided to propose??
