I have been working on my registry there and it has been problem after problem. I’ve had to call the registry number for half of the items I’ve wanted because there were problems. The majority of the people answering the phone are unhelpful and even rude.
When I was choosing where to register, I saw many items at WS Home that I liked. I called and was told they could be added to a WS registry-if not online, then I could call and they would do it manually. This is not true. Because “the systems are not linked” only certain items can be added. Even the same item can be added in some colors but not others.
Prices are sometimes different. If an item goes on sale, it may not be reflected in the registry-even for permanently discounted items. Some prices are just randomly different.
I wanted to get monogrammed bed linens with one sham with my initials and one with his. This can’t be done. The system won’t allow it.
Another problem is with gift cards. If you make a purchase with a gift card and put the balance on your credit card they charge the entire amount to your credit card and then credit it to your gift card and refund your credit card about a week later. This can be a big problem if you are making a large purchase and/or using a debit card.
They seem to be working on an antiquated computer system. If you call, they basically say we can’t help you. I’ve spent a lot of time working on the registry and on the phone-at this point I have to find somewhere else and start over.

Oh my gosh, that’s awful!!!! I think you’re absolutely doing the right thing to delete your registry there and go somewhere else. I’ve had amazing experiences with Crate & Barrel so far, I’d highly highly highly recommend them. Best of luck with your next one!

Yikes! That’s ridiculous. I’d scratch the entire registry. Some of your guests will not have the patience/time/money to deal with that. I’m shocked actually, that such a reputable company sucks that bad!

Whoa! That is definitely not cool. I’m really glad you posted this since I was considering having a registry with WS. If it’s creating this much of a headache just for you, I would hate to imagine the trouble your guests will have to go through. Deleting it and creating one elsewhere sounds like a smart move.

I’m so sorry you’re having this problem! I had some issues initially setting up my WS registry online and adding items, but I went into our local shop and they were VERY helpful. They actually set the registry up for me, showed me how to add items (both online and manually with the scan gun in the shop), and since then I haven’t had any issues.
They did say to avoid adding sale items to the registry because quantities are limited, and can vary between stores, so I didn’t do that.
Do you have a WS close to you? The people at the shop might be more helpful, if you are there in person (they also gave us a couple of free cookbooks – score!). Good luck!

I registered at WS and didn’t have any problems at all. I didn’t try to do things like monograms though so maybe that’s why.

We didnt’ have any problems with our WS registry, although some guests were able to find our registry items cheaper at other stores so we would just delete them from WS online when a guest alerted us that he/she had bought it at a discount elsewhere. I equate that to WS never really having any sales and charging top dollar for everything, esp. once it’s on a registry.

Ugh! I may try to go to a store. There is one near my parent’s and my mother really want me to register there because it would be convenient for their guests. I so hate to give them money, but there are a few items that I really like and I hate to have to start over!
The people on the phone seem to think this is all normal. When I was asking about the shams they said “well at Pottery Barn Kids (same owner) if you are having twins you can’t register for two of the same monogrammed item either. ” WTF?
i I have been on hold for 20 minutes…

Wow…this is terrible…and remind me not to try Pottery Barn, either! My FH wanted this registry, but the WS closed near us and I talked him out of it. Have you looked at Amazon’s Universal Registry, myregistry.com, or wishpot.com?

A WS and Pottery Barn just closed in my city too! You would think they would be more helpful!
I have a some things on Crate and Barrel and they are great and a local “gift” shop for my fine china. What do you think about using My Registry for the rest? Are guests (especially older ones) okay with it? Any problems? I set one up and it seems great to me.

they sound exactly like macy’s. i had nothing but problems with macy’s too. i’d delete your registry and go somewhere else.

On a slightly different note: I know a lot of people have had trouble with Target registry – buying/returning/damaged/exchanges etc. But recently they changed their policy on registry gifts – now you can return anything purchased – no questions. All you have to do is print (at home or in store kiosk) the list of purchased items and its 100% return. No matter if it’s damaged or no box/packaging. I thought it’d be a huge hassle but we walked out with a huge gift card!

I went to the Williams Sonoma store and the associates were very nice but admitted they couldn’t help. I cancelled my registry. I went to Bed Bath and Beyond and they were very nice and had most of the things I wanted. I hope they are easy to work with. I still need to find one more place to register.

I think it’s because of the combining of the home and regular WS store. I set my registry up (just at the regular WS store) and haven’t had issues with it (other than some sku’s in store and different than what’s online) – so, viewing/buying online is different than if they were to go into the store (because a lot of the items in store aren’t available online).

Oracle you may be right about that, but my biggest problem was with the lack of customer service.
After all of the problems, I detailed my complaints in an email to customer service. I received an auto reply that I would here back from them within 24 hours. I did here back from them-with a form email. My name was filled in but it did not mention anything I had discussed, or even that it pertained to a gift registry. Why bother?
Luckily B,B &B is great and I am sorry i did not go with them from the start.
