I would get a Zeno.  They aren’t cheap but if you use them right when the pimple starts appearing, they reduce them within a day or two.

There’s a few things you can try, from my experience.

You can steam your face (use a large towel and “seal” the steam in, with your face either over the sink with hot water, or a simmering pot of hot water) which should help open up the pores and get a whitehead extractor and try and gently press it out, which typically only leaves a small red mark that can be easily covered.

You can use a masque – Boots sells a spot-masque at Target that has worked nicely for me.

Good luck!

If it is one of those annoying underground zits, you should talk to your dermatologist. They will usually inject it with cortisone and it will go away so much faster without any scarring. Talk to him/her also before they do anything and let them know that you don’t have insurance – they may be willing to lower the price of the office visit or procedure. I worked for a dermatologist out of college and they used to do it all the time for patients.

Make an appointment with a dermatologist pronto. They can inject/drain it and it will disappear. If you can find a small dermatology office it shouldn’t cost as much as going to a large hospital. There’s really nothing you can to yourself to get rid of it, especially if it’s a cyst.

As far as preventative measures go, wash your face EVERY morning and EVERY night with a cleanser that has salicylic acid in it, make sure all makeup is removed before bed, use a toner to make sure your pores are super clean, and exfoliate to remove the dead skin that can clog pores.

I get cysts like that too every few months and holy moly they leave mean scars. I would definitely go to the dermatologist in your situation. Are you sure you’re not insured? I thought I wasn’t for 6 months after school, but it turns out I still was under my mom’s plan. If not, I would check with your school’s health center.

Ugh, cystic acne is the worst!

Do you have ZERO health insurance?! Cuz you should be able to get some through your university. In fact, most schools REQUIRE you have health insurance, in which case you can get a referral for a derm’s office.

But yeah…if you don’t see a dermatologist, you risk it hanging around for awhile and/or spreading. I feel like the swelling in cystic acne tends to cause the pores around that one zit to get squished or something and clog THOSE guys, too, because I usually get a cluster of cystic acne when I get one…it’s like a domino effect or something.
