I know most people say they don’t care about favors. I agree. If somebody gives me a wine cork with their name engraved on it, it’s probably sitting in my glovebox a year later. However…
We’re having an 80s themed wedding, like in a big, neon, ridiculous way. Our secondary theme (which plays a big role in decorations, etc.) is cassette tapes. All our friends and family are really into it and super excited and/or involved. We decided a long time ago that we wanted to do slap bracelets as our favor. My plan is to stamp neon (fabric) slap bracelets with a logo bearing our initials and the date, but in a kind of generic, non-wedding-ish kind of way. (Like A + B 1.2.12, but no plus sign, it’s an 80s lightning bolt instead.) The other thing we’re doing is enclosing a package of pop rocks inside a cassette tape jewel case, because our programs are printed on the cassette j-card. (No actual tape is inside.)
What do you think? There will be a large number of children at our wedding – probably about 30% of the total – at least 20 children, if not more. Most of our guests are close friends and family who wouldn’t care if their slap bracelets have our wedding date on them, either.

hahahahahah that is awesome!!! Sorry, that laughter was laughter of enthusiasm at how fun your wedding sounds! Gosh, slap bracelets are still fun for me. People will definitely be playing with them and the kids will LOVE them.
I love your ideas for favours. Another idea I’ve heard with cassettes is putting the music from the night on the tape which I thought was really nice. Like a tape mix. But that must be time consuming and hell, pop rocks you can EAT!
aw man, your wedding sounds awesome. Please post pics of the process/wedding. Sounds so cool! Congrats!

I think you may find that most people will feel the same way about your slap bracelets as you do the personalized wine cork. While they go with your theme, I haven’t so much as thought abut a slap bracelet let alone worn one since elementary school. You may end up with a bunch of those left at the end of the night. My honest opinion would be to forego the bracelets and just have the pop rocks. Even something like those may not be well received with all of your guests like an alternative edible would be but I think more people would enjoy them.

Do people really have cassette players anymore? I haven’t seen a functioning one in years.

CaitMarae I have one but maybe I’m daggy lol and that was only me talking about another idea I heard lol. drumkitt ‘s idea is much more practical and said she was offering pop rocks inside the cassette covers as well as the bracelets (maybe I read that incorrectly) and everyone can eat pop rocks!
drumkitt did mention that 30 percent of the guests were kids and for me, kids will love slap bracelets and … who’s going to complain about a favour that meant to be fun? I like the idea a lot 🙂

I’d agree with you about the bracelets being tossed aside like the wine cork if I was inviting people to my wedding I wasn’t close to. I’m not. Fiance has some extended family that’s invited but mostly not coming because they live out of town, and literally EVERY OTHER PERSON is a hardcore fan of this whole 80s wedding. We’re requiring theme dress (yes, requiring – the only people exempt are my FI’s elderly parents, because his dad has cancer – and they’re actually trying very hard to look ridiculous for us, too). I wouldn’t bother getting slap bracelets for a bunch of boring stick-in-the-mud types, but considering I’ve told quite a few people about this idea (because the slap bracelets were actually FI’s thinking, clever boy), at this point, if I DON’T do the bracelets, I’m pretty sure some people are going to be like, “Hey, um, where’s my slap bracelet?” LOL. We aren’t having a really big wedding and we won’t have any leftover – if anything, the kids can have extras.
@nanacholito: Thanks! The reaction you gave (about it being fun, etc) is pretty much what I’ve gotten across the board. I’ve had some random people ask if they can come just because they want to dress up/it sounds fun/etc. I hope it turns out as awesome as we’ve planned! I’ll definitely post pics. This is a serious budget wedding, too, and I’m pretty proud of my cost-saving measures, lol.
I am NOT making people mixtapes as a favor. Real audiophiles like me have cassette players, but that’s just too time consuming. The pop rocks were my BFF’s idea…I thought it was genius, personally! 😀

I think it sounds like a great idea. Even if the slap bracelets end up in the glove box they will be great fun on the night. I say go fot it!
