Hi Bees! With the risk of looking like an idiot, I am going to ask . My husband decided to invite a bunch of people over for a wine and cheese party (if you knew my Darling Husband, you would know how ridiculous this is lol). I love having parties and having people over, but I am completely lost on how to host a wine and cheese party without coming off as overly pretentious and making people feel awkward. I want it to be casual and fun, but with some kind of fun “dress code.” I just can’t make any of my ideas connect. Would it be silly to give it a retro/60’s theme, because I really want to. I would love any help or suggestions!

You can have a theme if you like, but not everyone will dress up if that’s what you are expecting as part of your theme. You have to remember too, that wine wasn’t nearly as popular in the 60’s as it is now. A 60’s party would more likely have featured cocktails.
You said your husband has already invited them. It may be a bit late for any kind of direction re their appearance/attendance. Younvcan still decorate if that’s what you mean.
It’s easy to have a wine and cheese party without being pretentious. Just have several choices of each, or ask your guests to bring a bottle in a brown paper bag and have a vote at the end of the evening on their favorites. Often the less expensive wine wins and everyone learns about some new wine choices.
