I think most anyone can benefit from therapy.  It’s nice to have someone to talk to, especially an unbiased person.

I have been in therapy on and off for years, when I think I need it or am looking for a professional unbiased opinion. I firmly believe in it and think more people should be open to it’s benefits.

@jouissance: I researched online to see how other people’s experiences were. Once I found a doctor I thought I could work with I just called my insurance to make sure that doctor was covered under my network and then called and booked an appointment and went through the registration.

I saw 3 therapists for one trial appointment each and the last one ended up being the right one. The first was super religious and wanted me to pray with her (no thanks), the second was a lot older and I felt I couldn’t be candid, the third really just *got* me right away. I went through 8 months of really good work with her.

I think therapy is great for anyone, and especially if you do have certain issues that are going on in your life. I always like to get recommendations for therapists. The woman Im seeing now was recommended to me by my GYN; can you ask your GYN or your general doctor for a recommendation? If not, I would look on your insurance website, and then try googling them to see if you can find out any additional info. Some therapists will also do phone consultations, so you can speak with them and see if you want to to go ahead and meet in person.

I think almost anyone can benefit from therapy. Sometimes it’s just nice to have that unbiased person there. I’ve been seeing a counselor for a while now and it’s been so incredibly beneficial. I’m not diagnosed with any mental issues other than very mild anxiety but do have some chronic health issues. Lately my health issues have made me a bit depressed and I’ve been more stressed out than usual and seeing a counselor helps me have less panic attacks.
